Cannon Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 I'm not usually one to analyze things like mounting depth, but my BBSM has me curious. It is less than flush-mounted by 1/16". As in, the bottom of the spring sits 1/16" below the top of the handle. To all you other BBSM owners out there, what is the mounting depth on your gripper? To anyone, how much does the mounting depth need to change to significantly affect the strength of the gripper? Quote
Matt Brouse Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 I will take a look at mine. But honestly, just squeeze really hard. Cannon Posted November 14, 2006 Author Posted November 14, 2006 I will take a look at mine. But honestly, just squeeze really hard. Thanks, Matt. Believe me, I do more squeezing than analyzing, but this gripper just seems freaky. I'm not concerned about how any of this affects my training, just curious about what I've got going on. Quote
JoeGrip Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Most BB's are like that. At least the 10 that I own are. Quote
PowerHouse Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 My GM is like your SM. I just mesured my SM and it is flush mounted. Quote Goals: To be stronger then I was last week. I don't mean to be condescending(which means to talk down to)..........
Cannon Posted November 14, 2006 Author Posted November 14, 2006 Thanks, guys. This satisfies my curiosity. I hereby dub my BBSM "normal". Quote
viper Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 i dont own beef builders, but i have two different IM #3's, both have wide spreads, an one is close to flush mounted, the other is much deeper, its so much deeper that the top of the handles grind against the spring as you close it - the deep mounted gripper is much harder to close, it makes a difference Quote http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=savvy22
acorn Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Yeah, I checked my BBSM when I got it awhile back and it was flush, so are my BBE, and BBSE - Aaron Quote ** Retired **
Number Ten Ox Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Just checked my COC's and HG grippers and not one of my springs is level with the top of my handles. So are all my grippers easier than normal? I can't compare to anyone else as I'm the only guy I know who owns any... handgripperman Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Most Beef builder's have 1/16-1/8 mounting. unless if they are the older ones. Quote

To anyone, how much does the mounting depth need to change to significantly affect the strength of the gripper? Cannon: I ran my gripper program for a BB Super Master and obtained the following results. First assume, 1) Handle Spread = 2.75" 2) Wire Diam = .275" 3) Inside Coil Diam = .915" Then vary Mount from 0.0", 1/16", 1/8". The Force-To-Close at handle center was computed to be: 243 lbsF at Mount = 0" 234 lbsF at Mount = 1/16" 225 lbsF at Mount = 1/8" Although the numerical values might not be exact, they are in a close ball park to what is found on a' typical' SM. Since I kept all the SM geometric variables constant in the simulation, EXCEPT Mount, the change in FTC is probably meaningful, i.e. ~10 lbs F for a 1/16" Mount change. The results will change depending on which gripper one studies. I would be glad to run other moidels, or other assumed data, if you are interested. --- Jim Quote
