Guest 115-1005574997 Posted June 20, 2002 Posted June 20, 2002 Last night i was training in the commercial gym where i live and have struck up a healthy banter with half a dozen or so local bodybuilders. After challenging and beating me in the H bar curl (one of the events contested at this summers British Iron Grip championships David Horne is running on the 3rd August in Stafford, England) I challenged them to a pinch grip contest. Admittedly these guys don’t train the lift and some use straps for chins and rows (ummmm) but me being 162lbs and most of them weighing 210lbs + I thought it would be fun. The block i have is 2" wide, 10" deep and smooth metal. anyway i only needed 55k (121lbs) in the 2 HPG as no one was able to lift 110lb from the floor, in fact most failed at 45k. In the past i have taken my gripers and only myself and 1 other has closed the #1 (some even failing on the trainer). So i was quite pleased after the ribbing i got with the curl Quote
willardjamessloan Posted June 20, 2002 Posted June 20, 2002 scott, I have seen the same thing happen in the gym I run, the big bodybuilders have on the average not so good of a grip, however I have found that usually anyone who does heavy dls has a good grip to start out with. The best beginners grips I have seen are laborers. I have a friend who nearly closed my #3 the first time he tried it . He just laughed and thought this was no big deal Quote
