makey98 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Do you guys think that there is a limit to what someone can bend depending on total upper body strength? Just curious if anyone here is not really into weights and can bend big steel? It seems that bending is primarily grip and wrist strength, but there is some back, chest, that comes into play... kerbjr Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Yes of course there is a limit, but weight lifting and bending seem to have very little correlation. In fact a lot of big benchers I know are very poor benders, this is due a lot to flexibillity though I believe. Bending seems to hit very specific muscles and carry over to other disciplines seems to be very poor...Brett Quote If the mind can conceive it, then the body can acheive it. Scott Styles Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I think when you see guys start getting stuck on the crush down, they've started hitting the limit of their upper body strength. Otherwise, it's hand and wrist strength, as well as pain tolerance. Quote You don't get a dog and do the barking yourself.

I'd bet there are plenty of guys on the board that can press or bench more than Pat but I haven't heard of anyone else bending that 7 3/8 FBBC. Quote Proud member of the Feat Cheaters Club! FrankyBoy Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 If you have a decent form (and you are doing bending quite a time) and are stuck in bending at a certain level you definately will push it simply by raising your upper body strength. I was stuck at 6" FBBC (90°) pretty long. Then I started to work my upper body (like 200# -> 280# in the bench) and that bar was toast even though I didn't even trained bending in the mean time. nickr104 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 (edited) I think you would be better off getting strong all over than just being good at bending ,but that is just me. IF you bend DO with your hands out twards the ends of the steel It takes alot of the wrist out and it is more upper body. At some piont you will run out of strength. Doing crush down training will work but at some piont you will just need to get more body strength. Pat may not bench what some guys can but you can be for sure he stregnth trains his whole body along with the bending he dose. There is a reason he is able to load 300 plus lbs. stones at a body weight of 169 or 170. Pat is just a Freak! I am a weak ass when it comes to bench and other lifts and can do all right bending so I think it is form, speed, and will that will determine how well you do not how much you can lift. It is nice to have that going for you but I do not think it is critical. -Sean Quote People sleep peacably in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf. -George Orwell Real Name: Sean Prince
