Where To Buy 70-penny Nails? Comparison To Reds And Bastards?

For those of you who can bend the IM Red and FBBC Bastard nails and have bent a 70d nail, how well does it compare to either of these standards? Also, assuming it's at least comparable, where would I go to buy a 50# box. GripRite makes 50# boxes of 60d nails, and I picked up such a box at HomeDepot. I also picked up a 50# box of 3/8" x 12" timber spikes (I think made by GripRite as well) at another local hardware store. But, there was no intermediate size such as the 70d (5/16" x 7" CRS). If possible, I'd like to avoid having to make an internet purchase, as the shipping costs would kill me.

Also, though I am a bit away from the standards --- pain limits me to bending no more than 2 pieces of 5/16" x 7" HRS prekinked to 90 degrees in a training session --- my overall grip strength is progressing nicely and I want to start striking while the iron is hot.

The other night, dead tired after my my main exercises --- back squat 275# x 20 no belt, snatch-grip DL 455# x 3 no belt and only using lifting straps --- I decided to give the Captains of Crush a go since one of my training partners brought his along and I hadn't touched a set in 2 months or so. For the first time ever, I did reps with a #2, 2 sets of 3 in fact, with my right hand. Normally, a single gets to within a nickel's thickness of touching and that's it. Not Tuesday night, 2 sets of 3 where I ground the handles on each rep.

Thanks for the help.

The Menards near me has 7 inch spikes...basically a 70d I think...in packages of about 6 or 8. They cost somewhere between $2 and $3 so they aren't cheap.

I've bent a few of them but I can't bend a red yet. I have bent grade 8's so it must be somewhere in between those. I have to use extra wrapping material though, they have a very sharp point, but you could cut the tip down a bit I suppose. There should still be a pic of a bent one next to a 60 in my gallery.

That is one of the only places I have seen them.

Yeah Menards has them. I bought two big boxes for like $11 each and I'm glad I did, last time I was there they had replaced that brand with new ones that were like 60d thickness only longer. Hopefully they will bring back (or didn't discontinue) the thicker brand.

The thick ones are very close to a red, maybe at 6 3/4" = red, but of course they vary.

I bought some at a local mom and pop Ace true value store. They are 7" X 5/16 spikes or 70D Nails. I have seen 3 types and the values are listed on Eric Milfelds Calibrated Fat Bastard Stocks list.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to check out ACE Hardware as there's a bunch of those stores in the STL area where I live, while the closest Menards is about 2-2.5 hours away.
