Slider454
I was looking at the pics of the olympic lifters that have huge verticals from real big guys and said that it was due to the explosive power generated from olympic lifting...can this work in grippers I thought!! In my shoes right now I can close my two #3's with a MMS at any given time I pick them up but I cannot get the CCS or no set them...I always land about 1/8 shy with these sets but I can kill the gripper with the MMS set...so I thought that its my sweep that needs the most work and not the general crush so I thought that I could take my number 2...hold it in my hand and dont apply any pressure with the fingers just so that its laying in my hand like a TNS and it one motion as quick as I can just slam the handles together and grind the handle but do it as fast and explosive as possible!! I have done this for the past 2 days and my arm is kinda sore I feel that I am hitting muscles in my forearm that I havent hit before just from doing reps on my number 2...has anyone tried this with good results..I can see it leading to an injury if done to much so it needs to be done in moderation and not near as much as just crushing. makey98
Interesting comparison. Brookfield talks about catching grippers out of the air and crushing them as quickly as possible so build explosive strength. I think he mentions this in the Grip Master's Manual. I haven't really worked on this much, but it sounds like it would be similar to what you are talking about. And if Brookfield says it, then it must be good! He said that a trainer would be difficult and if you could do this with a #1 then that would be very very good and to let him know about it... bencrush
Most of that sounds good Troy. But remember, a significant part of closing a gripper is placement of the gripper in the hand. Even so-called TNS gripper closes are subject to this. I can juggle a gripper into place and not use the other hand in any way, but it is still placed into the most efficient groove I can get it into. Closing grippers with the hand not in a good position of advantageous leverage-like purposely TNS closing a gripper with your hands not in a "good" position-will probably lead to injury, especially if done with great speed. I did my share of TNS closes and they are extremely helpful. Don't neglect the MMS stuff or even the CCS stuff though. They don't necessarily carryover perfectly. Like when I was first able to TNS my #3 on pretty much any day of the week, I still felt that the CCS closes were slightly harder to perform. Still do actually. So in conclusion: I think that if you practice lots of explosive closes that is great. But be careful about getting the best position for the set that you're practicing as possible. Don't expose yourself to needless injuries buddy. You're way too strong and enjoy this stuff too much to sit out for a few months with a screwed up tendon in your hand. Hope this helped. Pryderi
^^ I think that is the same thing in one of his grip tips - Some ideas from Brookfield: http://ironmind.com/ironcms/export/IronMin...s/griptip1.html http://ironmind.com/ironcms/export/IronMin.../griptip21.html
StalwartSentinel
Set the gripper in your hand (Light Set or MMS), pause for a second, take a deep breath, then violently crush the gripper as fast as you can! Repeat. There's your speed training.
acorn
I use the explosive method with my TTK and most other lifting. Have not tried it with the grippers yet. I will once I start working on TNS. - Aaron
Slider454
Set the gripper in your hand (Light Set or MMS), pause for a second, take a deep breath, then violently crush the gripper as fast as you can! Repeat. There's your speed training. thats exactly what im doing....keeping the gripper in place by pushing my thumb forward and then in one very quick and powerfull movement just slamming it closed and then grind it into and overcrush then release and repeat about 3 times then stop untill feeling refreshed and repeat again....like how you explained it I didnt think to go that deep into it....it seems to work though makes you concentrate on the close more than you think. viper
my style with gripper work is pure power, ive always done it like that, thats how ive exploded apples an shut my #3, theres no go in slow, speed kills grippers - ill end up slaming a #4 shut in a split second to prove that
menace3000
has anyone tried to apply westside principles to grip training? ME and DE days?
