GarytheDino
What are your thoughts on this lift? The Rolling Thunder is so popular now days but does anyone still do the barbell, and if so why do you prefer this? I prefer the barbell myself. I just started doing them again. I like the barbell because of the balance issue and the small diameter. I feel like I can get something out of it besides just a grip exercise. It's a lift that you can do without special equipment. I also enjoy resurrecting old lifts. I like the oddness of the lift also.
CoC#3
I enjoy this lift aswell dude, the best variant of it is the 2'' barbell one hand deads IMO. The issue of balance, combined with it wanting to roll and the thickness is awesome I have had to have a few weeks off doing them with a normal o bar though because training this frequently tore masses of skin off my palm. Do you use a hook grip when you do them? I don't i prefer a conventional grip. Edited August 15, 2006 by CoC#
bencrush
I really like the OHDL Gary. But I don't do it very often. If it was a contest event in one of the bigger grip contests, I'm sure I'd start really hitting it hard, but I mess with it every once in a while and it's got a great feel to it. I don't use a hook grip but lately any time I do the OHDL I do a few lifts with the hook just to try to get used to it. I think the thumbless OHDL feels more natural and beneficial than the conventional grip though.
GarytheDino
I do it without a hook then I'll hook when it gets to heavy to do without. After that I like to do a regular deadlift with an overgrip using the hook.

Florian Kellersmann
Yes, the one hand barbell deadlift is a great lift and I'm happy that this will be one discipline of the european grip championships in about two weeks.
Starkmann
I don't do the barbell often, but I need to. I enjoy working the 2" DB deadlift occasionally. Obviously lacks some of the balance challenges of teh barbell but it's a good alternative at times.

No hook. 235 with my left, again no hook. 250 thumbless with my right. Those numbers are probably middle ground for most of the members here.
