WildGorillaMan
I searched the FAQ and the Records board, but came away empty handed. Of the dudes who do 1-hand deadlifts with a tricep blaster, or farmer's walk bar type implement, what are guys hitting for weights, both for reps and singles? For informations sake, I just did 98kg x1 per hand. Not a true max, but a first time effort to get used to training these consistently. I think Herk Sparkman did 400+ and possibly 500+ but I can't remember the exact numbers. I'd consider 300+ to be good. And 400 to be very good. But I guess it depends on hook grip or no hook grip. Eli72
Why wouldn't you use a olympic bar???????????
bencrush
Why wouldn't you use a olympic bar??????????? Probably because you don't have the balance issue that you have with the Olympic bar. Or it's not as bad as balancing the O bar.
Sean Dockery
On a bar where the weight is below the grip, I'd have to ask about the height of pull. For instance, my homemade farmer's implement has the handle at about 18" which is a world of difference from the 14" that Atomic's handles are at, or the 11" that a Buffalo Bar is at. The lower the bar's starting height, the more impressive the lift is. I'd guess you could figure that out pretty easy tho'. Ben's numbers are pretty close. I'd say without hook...above 300 is getting decent, 400 is a worthy accomplishment for the "average" joe, and 500 is worth talking about. With a hook...I'd guess you ought to be pulling in the 600's before you started bragging. Again the height of pull is a huge caveat on all those #'s. For added fun factor, hold a sandbag on the "off" shoulder while doing the 1 hand deadlift. Then thank Steve Wiener.
Rick Walker
I have had 500 just short of lockout many times on my PDA farmer bar with 1-hand. This has been witnessed by Big Steve and Shrug. I would say 500+ locked out is decent.
WildGorillaMan
With 45lb plates, the handle sits 12 inches off of the deck. Those are good answers all. I've set a short-term goal of 300lbs unhooked and will go on from there. It's my understanding that once proficient at 1-hand deads, many trainees can do a substantial fraction of their best 2-hand deadlift, like 75% or higher. Onwards.
