Justin Reagan
I've found some 42" bolt cutters for a pretty good price. It says it can cut 3/4" steel. Of course, most bolt cutters have separate size limits for "soft" and "hard" steel. I'm assuming the 3/4" is meaning "soft" steel. I'm not sure what you would classify HRS as, but I figure these would probably do the job cutting 1/2" and maybe even 5/8" steel. Has anyone ever tried bolt cutters this big? If it would work, it would be a lot more convenient than paying for the cutting or using an angle grinder/etc. I can imagine one of these things being pretty heavy duty, as it weighs about 30 pounds. Justin Reagan I don't know if mine are that big but they are at least 36". I've cut through some pretty thick rebar with them. Also HRS is considered soft mild steel. - Aaron
Tim71
I have a HUGE pair (american made) that I just bought at a yard sale for $10.00 and they'd normally cost $150-$200 and they cut 5/8 inch steel although I set one end on the ground since they open so wide. I'd say go for it they work great. Tim
