Lacknotch
I bought a couple of the York blobs that BC was selling on Ebay a while back. I got a 30 & 35. I can't lift either of them. It feels like I'm just slipping but that could very well be lack of strength. So for a little while I was taking the heavier one (35#) and doing 2 handed tosses and catches with it hoping that would help. I'm still doing a little of this but I don't feel like I got much out of it. Now I duct taped 5 5# plates together. On first attempt I can hold this for about 10s with my left and about 25s with my right. Times decrease generally as sets progress. The duct taped plates give me a good width, similar to the blobs but the angle on the gripping surface is different, obviously. Is this a good method for me to progress to lifting these Yorks? Do you think me slipping on them is just lack of strength? (chalk doesn't seem to help, it just rubs off of my fingertips) I am tempted to rough up the edges a bit with some sandpaper but I feel like that might be in bad form. Any advice/comments welcomed and appreciated. -Dredge Edited August 1, 2006 by Dredge
Scott Styles
Squeeze harder. Press on the side of the 30lb blob that your thumb is on with your other hand as you try to lift it, see if you can get it that way. Do negatives. Lift it off a couch cushion or matress, use the springs to get some assistance. Deload the weight a little using bands or a see saw type lever / platform with weight on the other side. BIKERICH
Can always get smaller blobs.maybe 20lb'ers although i know its an added expense.be careful of your thumbs.you Dont want to stress them with too much weight.then you can move on to the larger blobs and sell the smaller blobs to someone else starting out with blobs. Lacknotch
UPDATE: So I tried, as Scott suggested, to put a little pressure with my other hand on the thumb side on the 30#. I could break ground with it that way. This was without chalk too. Scott, thanks again for the suggestions.
Scott Styles
Cool man, I picked up that trick from Ben Edwards. He calls it a finger press.
