Some New Bending Prs

Still haven't bent the Red Nail from scratch yet. I've bent one from 90 degrees very easily though, which eluded me until the other day when I got some coaching from Travis Mickelberry. Thanks Travis! Because all that coaching has been a great thing for me.

Last night I bent a 5/16"X7" CRS DO in 43 seconds! First time bending one DO! I did bend one the other day with Travis phone coaching me (had him on speakerphone) but it was started DU and took almost 5 minutes! BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG PR!

The Red is just around the corner. I've kinked it to 5 pennies DO so far...it's sitting on my dresser as I type...mocking me silently. It will go one of these days.

But why won't it go today? It should be about the same as the CRS at the same diameter? Right? I don't get it. The CRS feels the same on the crushdown but the kink is a different planet entirely. Oh well, I'm just saying what all the Red benders already know from rough experience.

Good stuff though.

So is "regular" cold-rolled steel easier than the Red?

Man Ben, your bending just keeps steadily climbing upwards. You're gonna damage some serious steel by the time the BBB rolls around. Keep it up!

You guys are all great. And no way on Earth did I think that I would be this close to bending a Red a few years ago...but it's going to happen today.

I have coaxed and pleaded with the steel today and slowly gotten the kink to expand from 5 pennies to a 17 penny kink right now. I even wrapped the Ironmind pads around the leather pads for more padding for my poor abused and bloody/raw hands. This last hard attempt left me bleeding slightly from the nose. No problem though.

I'm resting a bit and going to finish this monster off. I am excited! Even if it has taken me X number of days to bend this SOB it will be bent! I've taken it from a straight bar to finished (hopefully) and although it was an obscene amount of time I keep hearing from you Red and above benders that the next ones will be easier. I believe it. This is definitely mental at this point. Because another huge PR I had today was bending a 6 and 3/8" piece of 5/16" CRS in 44 seconds. Got it on tape and started it DU with leather pads. The crushdown on that length of CRS was definitely harder than the prekinked 90 degree Reds that I've finished off so far. So I'm glad that my CRS isn't the unusually buttery soft variety that some report getting.

The countdown has begun... :rock

Told ya bro its only time and pain :tongue

Prophetic words Gazza. :rock That's one of my favorite sayings now..."only time and pain." How fitting for the bending. Can't imagine the pain your bending level puts on you. :ohmy

Ben

I pinches the time and pain saying off of Sean sm76.

Right on! It's excellent and extremely fitting. I'll have to tell Sean he's a genius. :tongue

Got another bending PR to report.

5.5" Grade 8 in 46 seconds! :rock Felt easy until I hit the sweep like usual. Got it to about 90 degrees in 12 seconds. Got to put in some serious work on my sweep and crushdown now.
