Working with my fbbc 2 1/2in. dumbbells i notice that during a deadlift with the wt. in front of me if i grip the bar w/my palm towards me the lift is easier due to using les thumb but my wrist is straight.if my palm is towards the ground,my wrist is at a 90' angle but lift is harder due to more thumb but wil this angle cause wrist injury or am i wrong with my grip position?

I'm no expert on it, but I do a lot of farmer's walk and some thickbar deadlifting, and I never lift with my wrist bent at 90 deg. The most I've farmer's walked with is 190# ea. hand for 75', and I have lifted 240# in ea. hand, but didn't walk, both with a standard style handle, and both with the wrist straight.

I have a picture in my gallery of the 240#/ea. hand lift which shows my hand and wrist position.

Those are nice pix.on my deadlift,my wrist is at a slight angle when my palm is towards the floor.i brought the grip up because i thought i read bout it on a post.maybe it just doesnt matter as long as u lift.

no harm in finding your strength for max attempts but I wouldn't favor one hand position over the other. It sounds to me like your thumb is the weak link and you are training around it. Don't neglect it, you will regret it. Still if you can wrist curl enough to deadlift the weight you want that way, go for it.

Michael, thanx.i w/o with 35# blobs, looking for 40's and im asking re: thick bells because i dont want to cheat myself.but sounds like both bell grips are ok depending what u are training.maybe an RT is good for strict grip training?as it is hard to hook your wrist? What do you think?

well said, "Both bell grips are ok depending on what u are training"

Personally, I am at a stage where I am trying to take the long view and not leave glaring holes. If you hit blobs on day and thumbless barbell another, you're doing ok. Just make sure that if you are doing thick bar in a comp and they don't allow thumbless, you train with thumbs. Nothing is quite the same as doing the exact exercise.
