Hazerboy
How long do you do them for, and why would one be more adventageous than another? For instance in Dinosuar Training Kubik states that 200 pounds for a minute on a 2.5 inch bar is a good time, though I've heard that some to power holds on thick bars or pinch gripping for far less time. BIKERICH
Hazerboy, is Dinosaur Training one of the best books for thick handle dumbbell training?
JasonL
I do Dead Lockouts in the Rack, I usually hold it for 5 sec or so.
Hazerboy
Dinosaur training is about all gaining all around, real world strength. The guy definatly knows what he's talking about, and there is an entire chapter about thick handled training (along with several references throughout the book, its somewhat reptitive). I either do thick handled deadlifts, or thick static holds for around a minute. I just thought it was interesting that some train it for much shorter times, and wondered what difference it made. Sybersnott
200 pounds on a 2 1/2" bar??... I think that would be rather light; I'll haffta try that myself - on what page did he recommend that? Also, was that using a mixed grip or a double overhand one?
Hazerboy
Double overhand. Kubik said something to the effect of "If you can hold 200 lbs for a minute or more on a 2 1/2 inch bar, you're doing pretty good. If you can deadlift 250 on that same thick bar, you're pretty strong, but having 300 lb deadlift on a 2 1/2 inch bar, and you'll be the proud owner of the strongest grip in the neighberhood!"
