unseenbeat Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 vipar your talking one arm right ? two arm...my start weights that bad?? I can't say how "bad" your weights might be, but I personally don't like holds up to a minute. About 15 seconds is the longest I like to go. amaury Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 At the moment i am doing one arm holds on a 2.5 handle DB to train for the Inch. I don't tilt and don't brace to simulate better what it would feel like with the Inch (as far as possible). Right hand: around 45 seconds with 97lbs Left hand: around 20 seconds with the same weight. I am still light years away from the Inch but i plan buying one very soon. Good luck for your training. Cheers, A. Quote
viper Posted July 18, 2006 Author Posted July 18, 2006 cheers ive just thought, this would completely depend on what your gripping, if its a proper bar with proper knurling, your times will be much longer - forgot about that! personally im using thick plastic / cardboard tubing Quote http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=savvy22
amaury Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 I use the Ironmind Husky Handle DB. It is knurled and indeed it does make a difference: less thumb strength is needed to stop the rotation! I would say your weights are ok if you recently took up grip training! But it is possible to go much much higher. A pic of Danegarreau doing a 290lbs deadlift on a 2inch bar: http://www.gripboard.com/index.php?act=mod...=si&img=374 Could be something to shoot for as an intermediate goal Quote

NHBBareKnuckler Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 The weight sound nice for the time to me. I am new to this as wel. I had started holding till failure also, but then I realized NOT FAILING is usually what I do to build power and strength. So I don't do anything till failure. I had read this site on block weights and the guy only does block weight holds for 3 to 5 seconds or so. which actually made sence to me because how long does a rep take really? So 5 seconds is about half the time of a curl rep and you're not going in 2 directions, you know? More weight with less time is how I have been working it now. If that helps. Cheers Bro Quote

Check the last event:http://powerandbulk.com/Michigan%20Grip%20Champs%201 305lbs for 30 seconds is impressive. Can't remember the name of that british gripboard member, friend of David H., that does crazy dead holds on thick bars. There were loads of pics from him in the old gallery (some of him cleaning the Inch for example)?? Quote
Wes Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 (edited) That would be Chris James, heres his gallery http://www.cyberpump.com/gallery/album48 There's a vid in the top ten of Chris power cleaning 320 on a 2 inch axle, pressing it and supporting it with one arm overhead. As for a 2 inch bar deadlift, he has done 507 DO a long time ago, and is probably higher by now. All drug free. Edited July 18, 2006 by Wes Quote There is a natural order. The way things are meant to be. An order that says the good guys always win, that you die when it's your time or when you have it coming, that the ending is always happy-if only for someone else.
amaury Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Thanks Wes, i was indeed thinking about Chris! Quote
