Old Dax
Hi, I've recently started trying to pinch 4x5kg pltes (oly plates giving ~ 3.25inch wide) I can do it RH but not LH. I'm training using a short loading pin through the hole. Pin weighs 1kg. I'm now trying 4x5kg +pin +1.25kg RH and getting 8-12 sec for 4 sets. Question: Is four sets enough? I'm taking about 2mins rest between sets. Times can be a bit hit & miss depending on how well I get the set up. LH I'm doing 4x5kg +pin for same time / sets. Question:Lots of guys here do 4 or 5 x10lbs, what width is that generally?

What you're doing is more like block weights as opposed to pinching due to your pin through the holes keeping the plates in line. I can do 4 x 10 lb plate without pin through and it is about 5 inches in width. Btw are you off of t-nation?
unseenbeat
Do four sets leave you tired? If you are working hard enough, four sets is enough, depending on how you are training. Basically, no one can tell you how many sets is enough, that is up to you to read your body.
Old Dax
I seem to be improving, I take fourth set to failure and if I beat the 12sec time I up the weight next workout. BTW yes Bunch I also visit T-nation regularly, I guess you do too ( and a few others around here). I was thinking that using the oly plates at my gym might be giving me a narrower set up then some of you guys get with 4x10lb plates. I'm generally training with the pin as it allows me to add small weights (I have a 0.625kg home made, so I can add thiss then replace it with a 1.25kg etc.) I do try without the pin and can get the 4x5kg fairly easily when I'm fresh. I would like to get to doing 5x5kg plates (with & without the pin). Onward and upward! Dax
