payton88
Hey guys, Im new here and im 17, and new to grip training, I my CoC #1 a week ago and i just got done with my second workout on it. The first time i tried it I got 5 complete reps with my right hand and 4 reps with my left. And then I took it into my football weight to let a few of the lineman try it and nobody could fully close it , and these are some big guys to. Anyways I just got done working with it and I got 7 reps(almost 8 i couldnt get that last centimeter to touch) with my right hand and 6 rep with my left so im feeling pretty good right now (except for my forearms lol), anyways I just really felt like i needed to tell somebody and I know your probably laughing at me because i bet alot of you are closing CoC #3 and #4's. But my question was im kinda worried because the CoC #1 getting pretty easy really fast, how many reps should I be able to do with a CoC #1 before it safe to move to a CoC #2? I think the #2 is like 180lbs and I know the # 1 is 140lbs. Any help I would be very thankful.

Soilworker
You've got a good start. You're about where I was when I first got my #1 (my first gripper!). Welcome. You're doing exactly what you need to do.....reps. Reps on the #1 took me to the #2. As for the number, that's tough to discern without seeing exactly how you're doing your reps. Setting the gripper in your hand makes a huge leverage difference as you are probably aware by now. However, I think 15-20 good reps (letting the gripper open up 1" or wider between each rep) would easily put you in the #2 range.

Thanks alot Soilworker, would you mind making me a workout routine to try?, because so far I just do.. CoC#1: 5 sets of 5-7reps plate pinches with 2 10's together: 3 sets of 60 sec Wrist curls: 3 sets of 8-10 Also you said im starting out similar to you, would you mind if i asked what your PR's are now and how long it took you to reach them? Thanks again

Soilworker
Thanks alot Soilworker, would you mind making me a workout routine to try?, because so far I just do..CoC#1: 5 sets of 5-7reps plate pinches with 2 10's together: 3 sets of 60 sec Wrist curls: 3 sets of 8-10 Also you said im starting out similar to you, would you mind if i asked what your PR's are now and how long it took you to reach them? Thanks again That's pretty much what I used to do as far as exercises go. When I first got the grippers #1 and #2 I had read about them in a book, so I didn't know about different techniques and such. Basically I just repped out on the #1 and ultimately #2 several times per week. Usually I would squat once a week, and bench once a week, and do my reps on those days. Lifting will get you very warmed up. Long story short you don't really need to do a huge routine with a combination of this, that and the kitchen sink when you first begin. Try this: Do two or three sets on the #1, doing as many reps as you can. As the set goes on, the gripper move in your hand with each subsequent rep. When you cannot complete another rep, quickly reset the gripper in your hand and go for a few more reps. This is something I did instinctively and I feel it helped me out a lot. Do this twice a week. Otherwise just keep doing what you are doing, and be patient. That is one thing I wish that I was a couple years ago. Now, if you really want to cert on the #3 eventually then you will need to train with another type of set than the MM set. The credit card set, as per Ironmind rules, is very awkward. I spent 3-4 months just getting the technique for this one down by repping an easier gripper using the CC set. About me: I used to consider myself good at the gripper but time has proven that I am destined to be only mediocre...lol. I have some health problems so my gripping is intermitent. I have closed the MM1 like bananas said, closed about 9 #3s, most MM set, a few credit card set, and one no-set. I have also closed an Elite that is at least as hard as the MM2, and I'm pretty sure I was the first person to close an HG350. It took me probably 6-7 months for the first #3 I bought to be closed MM set, and I first credit card set a #3 around Christmas 2005. It took me like 6 months of specialization with the method I described above to credit card close the #3. Thanks for kind words guys. Good luck, please just be patient. Strength will come to all those who work hard. Soil
JoeGrip
Buy a #2, #3 now and start working on them both. The sooner you start squeezing them the sooner they will close.

mbcx6pmw
I'm in a similar place to you Blitz, fairly new to gripdom, although I'm 28, wish I'd started when I was your age, keep at it! Also up to about 8 reps on the #1, gonna order a #2 and #3 soon, can't wait to feel just how hard a #3 is!

Man, my goal is to get it by next June, After I get up to that COC# 2, im thinking about trying that KTA program they have on here, anybody try it? What were your results like if you did? and is it worth the money? By the way, thank for the advice guys, i think my knowlege of grip training just double in this thread alone, lol, also if you guys have any more tips or anything like that, please share them i would be very greatful. BIKERICH
Great work blitz54 on #1! Now its on to #2.it must have been a good feeling when the team had a hard time closing #1. it shows the hard work is paying off. as was said before, patience is key. during training the gains might not come as quickly as other times and you will get frustrated, but as long as you give 110% you will achieve your goals! keep on doing what you're doing. Thanks Richiec, yeah it was a good feeling watching other try to close it, but i was also worried because im the strongest guy on the team and a captin so everyone expects me to alway beat any one in any of the lifts, and i was reading how bench press and grip strength have nothing to do with each other so i was a little worried about bringing it into the weight room the day after i got it, but it all worked out anyway lol. any of you guys ever take it into weight rooms or party just to see people try it?
