Justin Reagan
What style of bending does everybody here use (primarily)? I just feel like one of the odd people--being a DU bender primarily. I just need to be sure that everybody out there hasn't jumped on the DO bandwagon... Thanks, Justin Reagan
Justin Reagan
And I'd also be curious about what your current best bend is. Just to see how many people are at a certain level, with each style. Justin
Scott Styles
Best Bends - DO: FBBC 6" x 1/4" round Reverse: Yellow DU: 6" Grade 2 bolt The only styles I've seriously trained are reverse and DU, both for a period of 2-3 months. Double overhand with good technique is just stronger. I can't train it cause it aggravates my shoulder, though.
Slider454
best bends for me so far are DO: Red Nail Reverse: Grade 5 DU: a measly 60D My DU isnt very good I think I will stick to the DO and perhaps bumping my reverse style up a bit!
carusom1
My best bends come with DU. I have bent DO and terminator. Use whatever style feels best for you.
jaccord
I primarily use DO. Sometimes I'll use reverse to help me get out of a sticking point. My best bends are a blue nail, and 60D, both galvanized and shiny. All done with DO Josh
Anuwbius
I bend mainly DO. Best is a 5/16 x 6" FBBC round. I am gonna get into some DU once I work on my shoulders and wrists a little more. Best with DU is a Grade 5 x 6". Reverse isnt worth it to me.
don chi
I try to use them all as much as possible. I tend to use reverse on the harder bars, but the DO is coming around a bit. I try to use DU as much as I can and that's usually on the lightest of bars. My bending is fairly weak (I am currently struggling on 1/4" stock). Anyone who kinks DU is impressive to me. Use what is most comfortable to you, just avoid bracing it.
bender
Purely reverse. My DO is weak, and the DU is horrible. Reverse: 5.5" G5. DO/DU: Timber Tie... : )
unseenbeat
Like some people, I kink one way and then finish DO. Myself, I kink DU or DO with knuckles together at about waist height (slim-style?). My best bend so far is a 5.5" blue nail. My best kink is a bunch of Grade 5's.
John Beatty
DO = Huge Bastard Reverse = grade 8 DU = never really seriously tried, I think I did a 1/4 x 7" round once
Soilworker
I am dense, and my technique is probably pretty bad compared to a lot of elite guys here. DO just feels unnatural to me so I don't do it. Reverse is my favorite but it aggravates my left elbow, so I don't do it. My DU has skyrocketed so now I use it exclusively. You are not alone Justin, although if I were strongest DO I would use that. I'm just imcompetent...and weak.
antarath
Reverse = Ironmind yellow nail Reverse = Ironmind blue nail Reverse = Ironmind blue nail (5") Can't understand how you can bend a nail using DO and DU. That's why I haven't got a clue how I could bend shorter nails. DO/DU using 2 fingers on each hand? uhm I better work on it Well well, I'm new at this anyway Edited June 23, 2006 by Mats Erik
Wayne
i use double overhand primarily. 6.5'' red or a bastard is my best currently, they feel about the same to me. never went for a pr with the other styles only messed around but i've bent a 5'' x 1/4'' FBBC round reverse grip and a grade 5 double underhand. bencrush
I used to be only a DU bender but have finally made the switch to almost all of my bending being done DO. Best Bends: DO: 5 and 7/8" Grade 8 DU: 6" Grade 8 Don't do reverse style. Bent a Grade 2 the other day but didn't like how it felt so I'll never do it again. I'm definitely proof that a strictly DU bender can make the long and arduous switch to DO if they just keep plugging away at it. I'm not great in either style but finally am better at the DO than the DU lately. I never felt comfortable with the DO. I bent my first Blue Nail DO in January and it took me until April to get my first DO Grade 8. So that's quite a while in my book.

I just need to be sure that everybody out there hasn't jumped on the DO bandwagon... Thanks, Justin Reagan I know you asked a simple question Justin but I though I'd also add that if you work on your DO it can only HELP your DU. That might sound contrary to what you think right now but it's true. If you are only able to get a tiny little kink in the bar DU then if you've done your DO homework, you can still finish it off! That's what has happened with me.
Justin Reagan
I do have major form problems with DO. I've bent a 4.5" G2 and kinked a 4" G2, but very rarely can I get a 6" G2 with DO. Strange, huh? Something to do with the length. Once my shoulder gets to feeling better, I'm going to get back to it. I like to use all styles at least a little bit. gripmaniac
I'm bending both DU & DO at the moment. . . .although I'm much stronger at DO. . for now DU is starting to grow on me. . .but then again it could just be a fungal infection Dave
mindovermatter
DO simply because my upper body is stronger than my wrists My best bend is either a 6.25 inch red or a bastard..they felt the same. I don't leave out my wrists so i bend 60d's reverse grip with ease...maybe ill try a g5 over the weekend or something.
smp76
DO is my primary, but I like them all. DO: 5.75"X5/16" Hex DU: 5.5"X1/4 Grade 8 Reverse: 6"X1/4" Grade 8 Tommy H style: 60d That hands straight out is tough!!! Tommy H. is the man. -Sean
Wes
And I'd also be curious about what your current best bend is.Just to see how many people are at a certain level, with each style. Justin I start bends using the "x style" that I came up with (combination of terminator and DU, never seen anyone else use this style. It will let you kink some serious steel, but due to hand placement, you can't get more than 20 degrees out of it), and finsh them with chest level DO. To date my best bend was an off center 5.5'' grade 5, and I've kinked a red equivalent. I suck at starting DO bends LOL Edited June 24, 2006 by Wes

Joaorv
I bend DO. It just feels natural to me that way. And when i first heard of bending nails thats the way i imagined it, so it has a more "cklassical" or "proper" ring to it. Not that there is anythign wrong at all with the other styles! I'm prety new at this and my best so far (all DO) 48 whites in a row 30 greens in a session in 3 settings (15+10+5) Slight kink on a Yellow (I hope to get it in a couple weeks, havent tried it again in about a month) Edited June 26, 2006 by Joaorv
FrankyBoy
I started reverse at head level, I switched to DU later and today I'm bending DO. I improved pretty good with DU and always felt to get stronger with reverse (at waist) when getting better in DU. Best bends are: DO: 6"x5/16" CRS (FBBC Huge Bastard) DU: Full DU-bend of 5.5" G5, 30° kink G8, 10° kink Red Nail Reverse: 5.5" G5
