Kettlebell Handle Diameter

I have a 20k Gill Athletics Kettlebell. I like it because the handle is kinda thick. I ordered their 24k kettlebell and the handle isn't as thick, is wider, and has a different shape. Handle shape must vary by model. It got me wondering, what do the different brands of kettlebell offer for handle diameter/circumference. Mine measure as follows:

Gill Athletics 20k: 1.77" Diameter, 5 9/16" Circumference

Gill Athletics 24k: 1.59" Diameter, 5" Circumference

Of interest is the website indicates both handles have a diameter of 42mm, which is 1.65". I won't be using the 24k until Saturday, so I don't know how the different handle affects things yet.

What I'm really wondering is, will the handle diameter and shape vary from kettlebell to kettlebell in the same brand?

Are the dragon door ones more consistent than this? It's not just that the handle diameter between models is a different size, the handles have completely different shapes. A cross section of the handle on the 20k bell would be kinda like an oval, while the 24k bell would be kinda like a tear drop, with the narrowest part closest to the bell.

I think you will only find that on the cheaper kettelbells. Like the gill ones. DOn't get me wrong they work great and I have a set of them, but the casting is not as good on them. You will not find this on the DD kettelbells and the like.

That makes sense. Good to know Dragon Door is offering more than just a brand name and paint job for the price difference. Thanks Nick.

I used the 24k kettlebell tonight, it worked great. I was worried the thinner handle would be easier on my grip, but that was not the case. I failed to account for the fact that the handle is longer, which actually made it harder on my grip.

I think Gill Athletics has nailed the sweet spot between price and quality. I now like the fact that there is more difference between the 2 kettlebells than just weight. It makes me more comfortable with the prospect of working through the weights 4k at a time. I feel like the challenge presented by each unique handle shape will make working with a new kettlebell that much more fun.

Great atttitude, Scott. And thanks for the review of the Gill bells. That's info I'll find valuable if/when I decide to purchase.
