JamesG Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Sijnce I cant always make it to the gym with the other guys I decided to make a thick bar by putting copper pipe insulation over my regular 1" bar. It is now like a 2.5" thick bar that you can squeeze in. It actually feels like grabbing a guys arm. Has anyone else tried something similar? What do you think about it, better then using a regular steel bar that doesnt give? Im hoping this type of bar will help with my armwrestling and grappling but not sure if a solid bar would be better for this purpose or not. I would love to know what you guys think. James G Quote
climber511 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I've never tried one but Sorinex makes the "Big Squeeze" with a cushioned handle. Sounds something like what you have there. verdigriz Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I made something similar...i found a piece of square piping that was chapped like an 'n', the metal was thinish wand obviously the shape was not thats comforatable. Also tthere was a chain linking the two lower ends so i could load weight onto the chain and lift from the handle. What I did was to cut two pieces of thick, fat plastic tubing and slit them down the side and put them over the handle part, then tape to secure it a bit, then put the other piece of pipe over the first and taped that two...it works a treat and theres a bit of give too when you squeze it, feels great and mean on the forearms. Soilworker Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I have tried this method, sort of anyway. I take something with a handle (like a 6 gallon gas jug) and fit the insulation or foam over the handle, and give it a good tight duct tape job. I use the gas jugs and fill them with sand and water, and then use them for farmers walk and the like. I throw them into a session every few weeks. They kill my grip in ways that a normal thickbar can't I believe. I hit some sort of PR almost every time a few days after using them. If I only had a single tool for training grip those would be it. supermagnamon Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I've seen ppl add black tape to the bar. Quote Real Name: Ronnie CastroBlog: http://www.thebigfilipino.com/blog.html
JamesG Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 Buzz so you like a thick handle that gives more then a regular thick bar handle? I forgot to mention how I made mine. I first wrapped my bar with a small towel and duct taped it to the bar. Then I put the copper insulation over the tape to that it is alittle more solid and then wrapped that with 1 layer of athletic tape. LIke I siad it feels like grabbing someones arm or hand so its probably a good move for law enforcement guy as well. Thanks guys and keep sharing! Quote
