oso Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I don't get what to do about this part after making the V shape. Continue to bend the edges of the book down while maintaining a tight grip. The book binding and pages on top of the book will split Clay Edgin phonebookI'm wondering how do you get the initial tear? Do you bend them down making the top pages break from too much force pulling on opposite directions? Quote

joehawkins Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I tend to bend like I was bending steel DO style (try to smash pinkies together), and also pulling my hands outward at the same time. It works, but I'm also gonna try Dan's way, because I've been getting some ugly tears. The further out you get your hands, the more tension there will be on the part you want to tear. Quote
oso Posted January 6, 2006 Author Posted January 6, 2006 ooooooooooookay, awesome. thank you for the replies. After messing around with them for like 5 minutes, I finally found the tech of getting the initial tear, I wasn't putting the thumbs close enough together for enough tension on the middle. I'm so happy that I actually started the ripping of a phone book...wasn't going to rip it all the way through though, parents still need them until the new ones come in this year lol. I'm going to try the knee one in a few Quote
Clay Edgin Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 (edited) Yeah sometimes you have to have your hands closer together. At times you can get your hands too far apart and then the book just bends and nothing happens. But ripping a book this way is like riding a bike - once you learn, you never forget. So now that you know how and it is working, you should be able to do it from now on. I'm currently working on another article on more advanced techniques for ripping books using what many consider to be more legitimate methods. They focus more on hand and wrist strength than the popping technique. I'd really encourage people to start trying more difficult techniques for ripping books once they can master the pop tech. 3Crusher Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Why even start with the popping technique? Why not just do it the right way from the beginning? Quote Don't you get it? Think for yourself, don't let others always do it for you. Master of The Mind Boggling Bud Lift. BURGUNDY POWER!!!!!!!
Clay Edgin Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 (edited) Because there is no free information out there on how to perform other techniques (yet). There is no "right way." All techniques end with the book in two pieces and the hands becoming stronger. Edited January 7, 2006 by ClayEdgin Quote
3Crusher Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Clay, Why does information have to be free? People are entitled to try to make some money from information. If you do not like the information, just do not buy it. As far as the right way of doing things, everyone has their own opinion. I feel that popping a phone book is fine, but you will not develop the strength that you will develop using the vertical tearing technique. Try notching a phone book with the popping technique. Good luck with that one. When I bend nails, I keep my hands close together because I want to strengthen my wrists. I feel that just loading up on the padding and putting your hands out on the ends of a nail with the sole intent of bending a more difficult nail than you are capable of bending with minimal padding and your hands close together is just a means to an end. I feel you will not get the most out of what you are putting into it. When I lift stones I don't use tacky. When I deadlift, I do use chalk but some would scoff at that. Are my methods perfect? Hell no. Do I expect everybody to follow what I do? Hell no. I have my ways, and everybody else has theirs. I choose to go the pure route with the least amount of "angles" but that is just me. Like I said, everybody is different. Just my two cents. Quote Don't you get it? Think for yourself, don't let others always do it for you. Master of The Mind Boggling Bud Lift. BURGUNDY POWER!!!!!!!
