naikkohekki Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Yesterday i got my first gripper (rb160) and i couldn´t close it more than little over 1/2. How should i train to close it as soon as possible? Since it´s my only gripper i quess i should do a lot of negatives, but how often? Will pinch gripping or static holds in the gym help crushing grip in any way? Quote
TelegraphKey Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I think only Gripping helps grippers. Since you can't close it & don't have an easier one to close, try to do negatives -- push your fingers closed & hold it as closed as possible as long as possible. Also, take a piece of rope or strap or even a coin, or something small like that, put it between the two handles, & hold the gripper closed holding the rope/strap/coin as long as possible until it drops out. Left Side Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 If you can afford it, I would highly reccomend getting a gripper you can close, a trainer or #1 from Ironmind. It will be much more helpful to use a gripper you can do some work on. Pinch grip and block lift will help you crush, develop all areas of hand strength and you will see much better results than focusing on crush right out the gate. Quote
mindovermatter Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 dont just think of grip training as grippers gippers grippers, you can train with just about anything, the most creative person is deffinitly John Brookfield he shows you things you can do with everyday household objects check it out http://ironmind.com/ironcms/export/IronMin...ps/griptip.html Quote 2006 goals! Scott Styles Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I'd suggest the following: 1. Get some chalk and use it. 2. Learn to set the gripper. 3. Give the gripper a couple good, hard squeezes every other day or so Do that for 2 weeks, then see how close you are. That's the point to start thinking about other training options. Heath wrote a great article on gripper training you can read here: http://www.farmstrength.com/ClosingBigGrippersFinal.doc Impliment some of his suggestions, you'll dominate that gripper in no time. And, don't forget, you can do a ton of stuff to make your grip stronger without grippers. I've got some of the easy / cheap equipment described on my website here: http://www.gripfaq.com/Grip_Weight_Equipment/ I'm personally of the opinion that things like thickbar, block weights, and levering give you much more useful hand strength than closing grippers anyway. It's rare that you'll need to apply heavy force on something as small as a gripper is at the close. Quote You don't get a dog and do the barking yourself.
