FIRST THINGS FIRST: CONGRATS ON THIS BENDING MILESTONE!

Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime

Try this link for some of this person's measured yield strengths on bars, bolts and nails.

Now as you have found already steel varies but normally the higher the grade of bolt the less variances.

Just click the icon you wish, one is listed by lengths and the other yield strengths.

Nice work on the G5.

Awesome Job, Stranger!!

I got the same bolt on 11/21 and on 1/2 I got, Grade8, Grade9, and 7"x1/4" Square. Just keep at it and nothing can stop you.

Check out the link below it has the info. you want. Also, go to the 2nd page, posts #32 & #40. Scott Styles put all of the info. in graph form. Print them off and you will always have them. Eric did a great job on calibrating alot of steel.

I have gotten two different brands of G5s from McMaster. The harder of the two have something that looks like a diamond on the head. The easier brand has a triangle on the head.

The rating that I have seen for Grade 5s (6") is 345 lbs. However, I would guess that the triangle-head bolts are somewhat less than that, perhaps in the 330 lb. range.

Don't worry if you have the weaker of the two brands. My first 6" G5 was a diamond-head. At that time, I didn't know about the difference and I moved up to 5.5" G5s. My first at this length was triangle head type, a couple months later I cut down a 6" diamond head bolt and tried it - it was definitely harder, but I got it too. Once you get a grade 5, you're playing in the right league ... Congrats.
