Blackheart Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Guys need your help...i am in a great dilima. Which would be best for levering a heavy hammer II leverage bar from ironmind or a sledgehammer it self? It is another problem though...I cnnot just pick up a sledge and go to the gym and start levering...things can get a little funky..You see, here in any gym in Greece they have no freaking idea about leverage exercises and leverage bars...So please tell me your opinion. handgripperman Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 I would get a sledge hammer anyday. get like a 16, or 20lber to start. then work yourself down the hammer. Quote
supermagnamon Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Get a Sledge hammer. Trust me, it's just bad @$$ that way. Quote Real Name: Ronnie CastroBlog: http://www.thebigfilipino.com/blog.html

If so, look over the INTERNET for Welding sites and don't be shy. There are many folks that will guide you along. What does it take? maybe a ........ That's totally left to your imagination and what you have lying around the house. Cheers. Quote
Blackheart Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 but how it is going to be? i will finish the workout at the gym and as soon as i reach home start doing levering with the sledges? won't it be a waste of time because at the time that i will go back at home i will be "cold".I mean that the warmth will have been lost Quote Η ΤΑΝ Η ΕΠΙ ΤΑΣ
Janne Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 so warmup again. ← Thanks, Porky, I would have put it a little differently. Quote
Blackheart Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 (edited) and in which length of the handle should i "play" with the sledge, sure not from the end of it because from there even a 5lbs sledge cannot be lifted. Edited December 30, 2005 by Blackheart Quote Η ΤΑΝ Η ΕΠΙ ΤΑΣ
FatBoy Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 I prefer the IM heavy hammer because you can adjust the weight and the 2inch handle works the hell out of your grip. It is very small and will fit in a gym bag very easy. Quote God didn't want the Irish to rule the world so he invented Whisky. Real name: William McCaslin
ruffhans Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Hammer, Hammer, Hammer!! and i secound that! the hammer will be cheaper,..for the most part. it will be more impressive to onlookers, it is a tool that has a long rich hystory and will prepare your hand well. i would say take it to the gym and show others what you are doing. explain it to them, spread the "gospal" of grip training. there is nothing like useing a tool that is a manhood tool. something strongmen of old used that was an everyday tool. not something welded at a factory. the heavy hammer II will work. but the sledge carries a hystory with it. it is instantly noticed and people know rite off hand that it is heavy. asfar as warming up. you will be ok. just do a wrist workout at home. writs dont need that much fancy equiptment. some of the strongest wrists in the world where built away from the gym. Jeff Parker Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 I would go with the heavy hammer 2. Easy to carry, easy to adjust the weight. Not the same as a sledge, but you can do things with a heavy hammer that you cant do with a sledge. I have both, and if you do want to make the sledge adjustable, it can be done pretty eaisly. I have a bunch of magnets that I attach weights to, and then onto the sledge. I can very eaisly take an 8lb sledge and make it go up in increments up to 18lbs. I use the heavy hammer more often than the sledge. Quote
amaury Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Easier to concentrate on your wrists when you don't have to concentrate on your grip too, so i would definitely pick the sledge for wrist strength. Plus you can use it sometimes for other things than grip training... Quote
gripmaniac Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I be inclined to go with a sledgehammer, particularly as you can make it loadable (refer Tom Black's article HERE) As an alternative you could try making a Lever Bar out of a pick handle (see Mobster's pic HERE). I train with one of these at the moment and it works a treat. More details/pics are available here Dave Quote
