which takes more grip strength. ripping the cards or closing the three. and which is harder to achieve.

For me it's the 3 for sure. I have had my 3 for a year and am not close. Ripped a full deck on my third day trying. ( A few days ago)

We do your stuff nearly as well as you do, you can't do ours very well at all, and we do everything that we both don't do much better than you can. Not very humble, I know, but true. -Coach Glassman

If you close a #3 you just close it, even with a set you just squeeze and either you close it or not.

I've torn plenty of decks. I'll step up and say there is a big difference between tearing a deck and tearing it well. Hell, there is a big difference between "good" and kicking ass at tearing cards! Look at Brookfield, Big Steve, and Tommy H., and Dennis. I'm sure I've left people outta the list that are good card tearers; but, there is a difference between just tearing a deck and tearing like these guys.

It's a feat that is difficult to compare to grippers.

For me, a good deck of cards is harder than a #3. I was repping the 3 before I could tear a full deck completely.

Yes I suppose the question needs to be properly qualified by asking WHAT deck of cards...

The deck I tore was a 50 cent deck.

I am nowhere near closing a #3 but I have torn two different brands of cards, starting with a full deck - one was the Dollar store made in China type, and the other a pack of Aviators. On the Aviators I dropped a number of cards along the way (it was 44 cards when I counted half the deck when done), so this might not qualify as a legitimate tear.

I can't close a #3 due simply to a lack of crushing strength, on the other hand, tearing cards depends on persistence, an ability to clamp down on the cards with both hands, good wrist strength, and some pain tolerance.

I can get reps off my #3 with a good set and tearing cards is still tough as hell for me. I've only dabbled in it sporadically but its still tough as heck imo.

Is there a big range of difficulty when it comes to tearing different brands of cards or is it minor?

Yes big difference between easy decks and hard ones. Almost like comparing a #2 and a #3 gripper.......Brett
