BigTone Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I live in the suburbs of chicago and I'm looking for a tire to do some sledgehammer training with. Where would the best place be to go, what to ask for, etc. Quote Anthony (Tony) Z. 2009 Goals: #3 Red Nail Deadlift 500 lbs

Cunny Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I don't live in Chicago but have you a tire fitter shop (don't know the names for over there). As these usually need to dispose of them in an environmentally way and I would imagine they will let you have an old one for free or go to a local farm as they may have them lying around. Bearcat 74 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 If you could find a trucking company or a heavy equipment dealer/company somewhere they would have what you need. DAN PRAYDIS Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 you don't need a tire you can use a big wood chopping block to put the smack down on and you won't split it and the hammer bounces good off of it Quote JUST BECAUSE ITS NOT ALIVE * DOESN'T MEAN ITS DEAD

HAMMERHEAD Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 You can use car tires. Just stack 'em and put something in the center to keep 'em from falling over. -HH Quote

joehawkins Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 My wife always gets pissed when I jam the brakes on the highway and go "ooh, old tire". So far haven't had the balls to get out and grab one. You should be able to grab tires at any garage. Quote
kimwood Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 banging old truck tires with a sledge hammer is great exercise and for many years has been a major part of training boxers in Asia and Latin America... (beats chopping wood...although you might squash a toe once and a while... at least you won't cut it off!)(remember the photos of Cuban boxing legend Teofilo Stevenson(3-time Olympic Heavyweight Boxing Champion('72.'76,'80)) pounding on the tire in the Cuban boxing camps...they didn't have fancy equipment...but were always very resourceful in their training...)
