Jeremy - I'd really have to think about "why" you are adding them into your routine. If Kim Wood with all his experience says don't do them, my guess is he's seen them tried with bad results. Personally, I won't even do mixed grip dead lift because of the danger of a biceps pull and the uneven way it loads you.

I havent done them on a fat bar, but I have done them on a reg bar. I did them to help better my hand offs in trianing on the bench.

If you do try them, what are they like on the thumb?

The idea seems ackward to me. Maybe instead of those you could try doing some thickbar chins or hangs with the palms facing you. Also, why do full deads with the weight? Maybe just holds in the rack with that grip?

no DU on an axle deadlifts. my biceps wouldn't be so happy about that.

I've tried DU (very) partial deads recently. felt really hard on the thumbs, much harder than on the DO version, strangely. I personally like them.
