jimwylie1
Does any one know if the Rolling Thunder record weight is just the weight of the plates or the plates plus loading pin, carabiner and handle? I am aware that I could email Ironmind and ask them, but thought I'd check if anyone here knew before I bothered them. Thanks Jim
DuTCH
You got plans to break it? Last RT comp i did, held by moser, wich followed the official RT rules was excluding the loading pin and carabiner and handle.. Plates only.

Especially if I can't count the weight of the extra bits and bobs . Did Moser contact Ironmind and ask them this question? It's not clear from the rules on the Ironmind website...but I could be missing something! More strength is needed.
DuTCH
Yes he did, but don't pin me on this one though. Maybe someone else can confirm this?
austinslater
I was always under the impression that the loading pin and handle were added in to the total. . .
jimwylie1
Mobster reckons that the weight of the loading pin etc are ADDED to the weight of the plates. He confirmed this with Ironmind before his record attempt

Hubgeezer
Mobster reckons that the weight of the loading pin etc are ADDED to the weight of the plates. He confirmed this with Ironmind before his record attempt ← Before I had heard of the Gripboard, I had emailed Strossen on this. Records include the total weight; plates plus handle plus pin plus clip. At the time, Strossen said that sometimes contests, to simplify the work, count plates only. Since that time, I have seen that to be the case. Some use plates only weight, some call the device 6 pounds, some call it 7 pounds, etc. Hubgeezer
jimwylie1
Thanks for backing that up Geez. That little bit of weight can make a lot of difference.
Hubgeezer
little bit of weight can make a lot of difference. ← Yeah, what sounds more impressive, a 205 pound Rolling Thunder lift or a 199 pound lift?

Wayne
Magnus Samuelsson has the record beat by about 20lb. but it is not official. can anybody on this board, or anyone know of anybody else, lift over the world record?
jimwylie1
I believe that Mobster has done about 130kg in training. There's a picture of him lifting in the region of 122kg somewhere. Edit: Here's that pic. I had it on my PC and have uploaded it to my Gallery. It looks like Steve is lifting 122.5kg plus the handle etc! Steve G RT lift Hope you don't mind me posting that Steve
Dude
Do you think hand size gives a much larger advantage on RT than say grippers, vbar, etc? My hands are 7.5 and I would think you'd need about 8" to touch, but the advantage would be so much greater. I was just wondering cause most guys I see hitting bit RT #s their hands make the RT handle look tiny, like in that pic. Any small handed guys out there pulling big numbers on the RT? That was taken about 3 years ago at Pump 'n' Tone gym in Manchester the day before my mate Darren 'Strengthmonster' Sherlock's wedding. supermagnamon
can anybody on this board, or anyone know of anybody else, lift over the world record? ← Dan Harrison, former Meat Loaf of this board, works out with Odd Haugen. Last month he told me that Odd has done 275 during a workout. I believe him. Hubgeezer ← i believe. i saw odd do over 240lbs on the RT and he said it was like a warm up to him and i'm omg, he didn't just say that. he doesn't train grip. also, he did a one arm deadlift on the 3 inch dumbell that he has and did over 150lbs with ease. i'm jealous once and everytime i go to his pad, i get scared and motivated at the same time. Wade Gillingham
RT diameter is 2 3/8", it is 2" shedule 40 pipe which has an OD of 2 3/8. The world record was weighed with the pin and handle. Every contest I have been in has included the weight of the handle.
