oldschoollion
i believe in the bomb proof bulletin roger said he was already planning for it at the end of the last nos. and since it seems to grows every year, i can't see this not being the case. Bearcat 74
Ok....complete newbie question..what is exactl the AOBS Night Of Strength? I gotta know..and also WHERE is it? thanks! ← Roger LaPointe at Atomic Athletic has held a Night of Strength the last 3-4 years at the Arnold Classic. It is usually early in March, Columbus Ohio. It is truely a great time. You will meet some great people. AOBS is in New York, early in June I do believe, it is also a great time with a lot of great people. Bearcat 74
I guess for NOS you would need to contact Roger. AOBS yes you need to buy tickets, $55 I think. Contact Steve Weiner, 3Crusher, for more info about AOBS. AOBS = Association of Oldtime Barbell and Strongmen

Hubgeezer
The Association of Oldetime Barbell & Strongmen 23rd Reunion Banquet Saturday, June 3, 2006 Performers this year are Dennis Rogers and Steve Schmidt Of the 250 or so attendees, around 20 to 25 were "grip people". I believe this has gone up from less than one table 5 years ago, to over 3 tables worth in 2005. web-site http://www.wlinfo.com/AOBS.htm 718-661-3195
Dude
The AOBS is only 70 miles from me at school so I think I might def go to watch that. My buddy has also wanted to go to the Arnold for the past few years so maybe even make a roadtrip for fun. What happens at each? Basically the top dudes doing feats and stuff like that? I remember it was only me and Steve (GripBoard members) @ the 2000 AOBS. We (GB members) are a definite force there now!! Go GripBoard!!! SS, I guess my estimate was correct. Two people is less than one table's worth. HG
Hubgeezer
What happens at each? Basically the top dudes doing feats and stuff like that? ← AOBS is to honor old time strongmen, weightlifters, and various iron game enthusiasts that, on the average, are over 60 years old. Grip People are a subculture there that has an evergrowing presence. In some respects, for the nongrip guys, it is almost like a Rotary convention: True Believers coming back year after year to socialize and share. Grip Guys have, it seems to me, grafted onto a cause that is worth grafting onto. They go to visit with other grip guys, rub shoulders with legends, learn a little history, see good performances after dinner, and have a good time. The event is NOT geared towards Grip Guys in any way, shape or form. When 20-years-dead-Bob Hoffman got his belated standing ovation from the audience, most of the Grip Guys were in the lobby outside the main room hanging out. I don't say this as a criticism, just a fact. I remember that well because my son was in the lobby with them, and did not witness the rather surreal event at that moment. I dragged my son there and did not expect for him to have a good time. He had a great time. It was the people aspect that made it worth going to. I think the spirit of the event seems to apply to all attendees, regardless of where they fall on the Iron Game Food Chain. As to Night of Strength, someone else needs to explain that one. GarytheDino
My enthusiasm in old time strongmen has grown since my involvment in grip. I like many of the old lifts. It seems that grip has been the forgotten link in strength. Many people think they are strong but can't transfer the strength in their upper body through the wrists and into the hands to perform an other wise easy feat of strength. Grip is pointing us less than 60 crowd in the direction it should be. I need to make it to the dinner this year. I think most of us here are more than "grip guys". Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the NOS is a performance of selected lifters picked by Roger from Atomic Athletic to perform on the Friday of the Arnold weekend. He issues the tickets and I don't think it has anything to do with the Arnold, it's just that lots of strength people are in one place that weekend. I need to go to that too. I've missed every one. kimwood
everybody here should support the AOBS...the "spirit" of the annual dinner is awesome...there are far more "grip" men there than Hubgeezer's estimate. Don't forget... a strong grip was a necessity for the strongmen of old...and the people that come to this affair have lived the history of strength... foggymountainmuscle
NOSIII was probably the best night of my life. I can't wait for IV. I want to test my mettle against those 16lbs. sledges. I also plan on some big zercher lifts as well. AOBS sounds great, and I plan to make the trip one of these days, but this year I am doubtful.
