ruffhans
no im not braggin. but i have been hooked on and been useing dexterity balls for about 2 years. i started with the regular sized ones and ended up buying a pair of the bigger ones. the same as I.M sells in there brookfield cource. well about a week ago i decided to make some very big ones. and with taking some very helpful advice from a few guys on here i went and bought two sets of wiffle balls. the one set i bought was the same size as a baceball, and the other the size of a softball. i also went out and bought theese glow in the dark balls for dogs that i found at walmart in the pet department. they fall in size, between the baceball size and softball size wiffle balls. i filled them all with cement. and i have become very happy with all of them! only a few days of useing them i can see how they are most efective in hand health, and hand warm up. like i say, it has only been about two weeks but im already have been thinking about finding some balls that are bigger. well, about a month ago my wife and i purchased a set of balls from walmart. they can be found in the escersize department at walmart. they carry three difirent sizes. from 3 lb to 5 lb and 10 lb. theese balls come in a set and are for working out with they have been selling alot with palaties and yoga type workout programs. we had purchased the 3 lb ones and they are green. they are rubber and filled with what feels like sand. well my softball size wiffle balls measure 3 and 1.2 inches in width. so they are a handfull to hold onto and roll at the sametime. well tonight i picked up the green esxcersize balls from walmart wich measure 4 and 1/2 inches in width and decided to try and roll them around in my hand. at first they would fall, and i could only roll them about 3 inches before loosing them. but after a few trys i got em! i will say they are awesome. they gave my hands a workout like no other. also my bicep. and i needed alot of consintratoin to move them around. it was not a fast rolling like on smaller balls but with practice im sure i will have them moving faster. i highly recomend them to anyone who already uses big balls for hand health.they had my pinky and thumb steatched to the max! there is one down fall,..i have 8 inch hands that are 4 and 1/2 inches in width, so im not sure how many of you will be able to get a rewerding workout with them if you have smaller hands. if any of you guys go to walmart and vave a few bucks to spend,.buy em and try em out and let me know what you think. TelegraphKey
ruffhans, I also have the John Brookfield Level 2 dexterity balls & I really enjoy them. The pamphlet they send with it says we can buy larger shots at sporting good stores, but nothing locally has any size shot put. The Level 2 dexterity, at .6 kg/1.33 lbs are great, and at first were extremely challenging for me, and also definitely help recuperate my hands. However I do want something bigger. I saw at the sporting goods place, they have medicine balls & even whiffle balls like you were talking about. My problem with these is that they are both too large & too light. Are you happy enough with the larger medicine balls which, even though they aren't nearly as heavy as steel shots, are still so large & unwieldy? If you are, then I might buy a couple for myself Thanks
ruffhans
well the wiffle balls are filled with cement and end up wieghing about2.5 lbs each. i am going to fill another pair with pennies to make them heavy'r. i also am going to order some shots one of theese days myself. the green medicine type balls from walmart, even though they are only 3 lbs a piece they are just enough for a good workout i think. any lieghter and they would not be. however i am going to cut a hole in them in the future and add about 4 to 5 more lbs to each. i feel for myself that even though they are only 3 lbs now, that having to stretch your hand so to move them helps with the chalange and makes for a good workout. point bieng that 3 lbs in a bigger ball will feel harder than 3 lbs in a smaller ball. i have found this to be true. just because the ball gets bigger doesnt mean it has to get heavy'r. it will still provide a good chalange. it actualy opens up a new relm for ball work. if you want to move up you can keep useing same size balls but get ones that increase in lbs. or keep the lbs but increase in size. for some people moving to realy big balls and having the lbs increase aswell mite be too much at once. give em a try,.. you can always return them. one of theese days i am going to fill some 4 inch width rubber balls with water. water provides good wieght. and i will leave soem room in the balls so the water moves around making a greater chalnge on the hands.
