When Do You Do Grippers

I've had a good year for most of my lifting. Receintly getting two goals for the year, 120pound DB snatch (despite laughable technique), and two standing rollouts with the evil wheel, but I've made zero progress on grippers. I think my main issue is likely trying to do them at the end of my main workout. Two bad things often happen:

1. It's damn easy to skip them, as I'm tired or time is running out.

2. My hands are often pre-fatigued, and I don't think I'm getting the best workout. I've notice if I close a 2 at work, no warm-up, It feels a LOT easier than at the end of the workout.

Should I try a different time (obviouly I need to try something), but when?

I have done my best during workouts, inbetween sets of presses or squats. That's my rest period. When I finish a set, do some grippers, done with grippers, do another set lifting.

My grip always sucks when I do it in with or after curls.

Although I'm a newbie, my own experience so far is that my grip is always much more superior between sets of squats. Perhaps not all that strange because of the large muscle groups involved during the squats, so it's only naturall that the whole body gets pumped up and mad:yikes during squats.

i kinda just do gripper whenever. sometimes i like to think i'm getting on a routine but then i'll be on a rest day and can't resist picking up a gripper, or i'll tell myself i'm going to do so and so today and i just don't feel like it that day.

i have done grippers at the gym during my workout, usually just singles with one of my best grippers in between presses and what not, but they are usually some of my strongest closes.

I tried this yesterday and it work great. It was probably the best gripper workout of the year for me. Intensity was already high, which really helped. I think I will also incorportate a time different than my other workouts once a week or so. HOpefully next year will give me some gripper sucess..

thanks everyone....

Good advice. I always do them inbetween sets of weights too.

I try to do my grip work separately from my full body work-out, so that I can focus solely on it for the 30-60 minutes I give it. Sometimes it falls on the same day as my regular work-out, sometimes it doesn’t. But it is always in a different block of time.

In between sets here too. My blood's flowing and my hands feel great. A lot better than just flopping down on a bench and waiting for my next set too.
