Rick Walker Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I didnt get a chance to post in the other thread as it got nuked! Anyway, I bought 20' of rope from Wolverine Sports a year ago, comes with the hardware already attached! Great stuff and the service was outstanding! Check it out: Wolverine Sports I use it a lot for backward drags and arm over arm pulls. Also for pull-ups. -Rick "I ain't afraid to die anymore...I've done it already."
Rick Walker Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 I bet if you called them, you could get a couple of 5 foot pieces with attachments already on each. I am going to check it out and see what the price is- -Rick "I ain't afraid to die anymore...I've done it already."
deaner Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Thanks, I'd definately like to get one of those. Real name: Jason Deane, 2007 goals: quite honestly my business is taking front seat for a while, general fitness and mean looking guns are my only grip focus right now.

joehawkins Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I don't think those look unsafe at all. I bought just a length of rope from a different source, with no attachements, and I just fancy-knotted it and hung it from a tree limb. I've climbed it a bunch of times, and nuthin bad yet. In retrospect, getting the attached clip would have saved me some installation time and would almost negate the possibility of failure (ie, how much do I trust my knot tying skills. I was never a boyscout.) I would also like to add that it is a much harder exercise without those rest knos and all, just the plain rope.
JamesG Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Has anyone gotten a price yet for the shorter pieces?

I know nothing about these ropes, they are probably super strong and will work just fine, but some people like to support others in the grip world like John at FHS. I buy guns quite a bit, I would rather pay a little more from someone I know and trust then from someone I don't. The stuff I have gotten from Wood I paid full price including shipping, so no one thinks I am getting some sort of deal from him. Plus, John's service is 2nd to none. John has a buisness the purpose of a buisness is to make money, John sells good stuff, good stuff ain't cheap. Before John got started it was PDA, before them it was IM. Buy from where ever you want, but please stop the constant whinning and bitching about prices. Real Name: Heath Sexton Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there. John Wood Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Hey guys, Im not sure what the issue is here, our prices are exactly the same as the climbing ropes you will find elsewhere 'cept our customer service and shipping time is better. As for the short ropes, good luck finding those. Even if you do happen to find the source, they won't sell them to you. If you wonder why the price is what it is it is because they are C-U-S-T-O-M. Merry Christmas!

I would rather spend a little bit of $$ on the ropes at FHS and feel safe then chance some rope from the Home Depot and my knot skills. 3Crusher Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I stand with Heath on this one. If you are short on money, you can always mow some lawns, shovel snow, or even collect and cash in on cans & bottles in states that have bottle deposit laws. Buy quality equipment from a reputable source and you will not be sorry. Go ahead, do some heavy partials in some piece of crap power rack, and watch it fall apart. Hopefully you'll also escape uninjured. Hopefully a home made rope and/or attachment won't give way when you are 15 or 20 feet off the ground, or you would really be up the creek. The choice is yours. Don't you get it? Think for yourself, don't let others always do it for you. Master of The Mind Boggling Bud Lift. BURGUNDY POWER!!!!!!!
Bearcat 74 Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Wes, I usually don't even post in these threads, I usually try to add some knowledge to the training board. You should try it sometime........... No, I posted my opinion about whinning, I don't bitch and whine. You had absolutely nothing to ad with your post. I added my 2 pennies about equipment. I don't see how my getting on here and standing up for John is bitching and whining. I don't give a crap where someone buys something from, I just don't see why everytime FHS is mentioned the only comment people know is to talk about prices. As for the get used to it comment, what am I supposed to get used to, people buying stuff other places, or complaining? nickr104 Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I agree stop yelling about prices. Doc and I are far from wealthy and get by with what we got. But we have funds for stuff like a atomic ball, forulators, nicer bar for squats like a buffalo bar or texas power bar. Sooner than latter we will have this stuff. It is all quality equipment and i am willing to pay for it. If you don't like the prices don't buy from there. I don't really care where you buy your stuff. The ropes on the link that Rick posted look great and i am sure they are. SOrry your post got hijacked a little Rick but SOme of these people need to get a life and leave John alone. he is running a business if you don't like how he runs it don't go there. You don't need to go on and on how you think he is ripping people off. grow up. I think we are a adults here. Nick RosendaulI am a Upser"I slept with John Eaton and lived to tell about it!"

John Wood Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I was referring to a short rope with the hanging and attachment hardware on it, genius. Please let us know what kind of knot you are able to tie your rope into. Have fun!

climber511 Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 One other point. At GGC this year, there was a huge pile of donated prizes on the table. John Wood, Dennis Rogers, Elite fitness, Deisel Crew, IM, and quite a few others gave (and continue to give) freely of their own products (read money) to this and many others contests around the country. Think about this when you buy as well. It's a free market place - if Johns or anyones prices are too high, people won't buy enough to keep them in business. A story about John from a while back for you all. I get Johns email newsletter and one time it contained rock climbing - I wrote John a short note about my involvement in the sport for many years. He asked my thoughts and I sent him a fairly short litle email with my thoughts. Next thing I know, John sends me a free tee shirt, for an email!!! I thought that was a pretty classy thing to do for something so small. So it's not all take and no give - many of these companies give a lot back to us. My two cents. When people used to ask him how it was he became so incredibly strong, it was always the same, "strengthen your mind, the rest will follow". The Mighty Atom Age wrinkles the body. austinslater Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I wont add a whole lot to whats already been said but you get what you pay for. John makes top notch stuff that will last a lifetime. Scott Styles Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 To me, part of the fun of a hobby is finding deals on the equipment to support the hobby. For instance, say I was considering purchasing the bag of nails from Ironmind and posted on it. Then someone pointed out to me that I could get a wider variety and greater quanitity of stock from FBBC. I would be happy to have found that out and glad someone had pointed me in the direction of an alternative product. It's not even about the price so much as the hunt for the best product and service for the lowest price. One of the advantages of having a community of people interested in the hobby together in a single place is that they can help each other out. This includes maximizing the value of a dollar spent on training equipment. I could blow thousands on training equipment if I wanted. It doesn't change the fact that hard work and consistency are what yield results, not fancy equipment. In my mind, another factor that comes in to play when determining the store from which to purchase is your perception of the company. I have never met John or purchased anything from Functional Hand Strength. I'm left to evaluate the offerings of the company based upon their website and customer reviews. Much of the ad copy on the FHS website contains grandiose claims regarding the effectiveness of the products which are offered for sale. I find many of these claims to be reminiscent of the false promises offered in the muscle rags regarding supplements or equipment. I have no doubt that this sells product better to the masses than simply saying, "here's what we have, it's a good training tool." However, it means as an informed consumer, I'm going to be wary and hold the store to a higher standard before purchasing or encouraging others to purchase their product. I've learned the hard way that good sales often means a bad product. It's also natural to want to help others avoid making the mistakes I have in the past. With that said, there are other factors that have entered into play for me in determining if I will buy from FHS in the future - o Consistent, favorable reviews from many people on this board that I respect with no commerical interest in the company o Donation of prizes to contests o John's achievements in the field of grip strength. (I'd love to see him put out some more videos of this stuff. I think the last good thing we got was all the can bursting.) o Sponsorship of the Gripboard for a significant period of time As a result of these, there are several purchases I am planning in the next 6 months that will likely go through FHS. None of them will contain rope, but I do think there are some good offerings available and John deserves recognition to bringing some unuiqe training tools to our attention. You don't get a dog and do the barking yourself.
