GatorGrip Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Interesting for sure, it looks similar to the DARD lower leg strengthener. I noticed that PDA basically put down formulator type device by pointing out that the Chimera / Ankle Curl Device (ACD) had a double use for strengthening both the lower legs and lower arms where as the other device was only adaptable to forearm training. I have noticed that PDA seems to make several devices that have add on options to them multi-functional. I like some of the well thought out pieces but then again their ingenuity doesn't come cheap but I guess you get what you pay for. Too much for my current budget but definitely looks like it could be a real quality training tool for someone looking for a device to use for both body parts. EricMilfeld Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Havent' tried it, but it looks to be very high quality. But what I really want is the Chimera statue for my garage gym! Quote

kurmit Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I'm sorry, PDA makes some decent stuff but this just seems like a really poor ripoff. I really love my Formulator, I think it's the single best thing going for wrist and forearm work( I still love the wrist roller, lever bar, and the good old fashioned wrist curl). In PDA's defense though, I have fractional plates, and a stainless Kb(well made, but I think a solid kb or a detroit Bb Kb would've been a better choice.) Quote
dosvueltas Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Hi guys, 1. Here's a nutty thought. Has anyone who has a formulator actually tried it out as a DARD? The basic design looks the same, so I'm guessing that how it clips on, where the padding is, might be more of the limiting factor. 2. Also, anyone has tried out both the Formulator and the Chimera to do a comparison in terms of feel? Quote
Dmitri Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I have ordered The Formulator since 2nd week of october, but still the item haven't arrive yet (I'm from Asia). But I still believe this is a better product compare to PDA's chimera coz of it's design and complications in ordering (finish, auxiliary pads, collars etc) And why would somebody who trains his forearms would also train his ankle (what's that again)? Just my thought! Quote
Rick Walker Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Too much for my current budget Gator, then you need to go shovel some snow or park cars to buy the best equipment available! I made a similar unit with 2x4s and some deck screws. I didn't pad it, instead, I use some thick winter gloves. Seems to be working just fine, and the cost was under $10. Be resourceful! Just because something costs more, does not de facto make it better. As a consumer, you should look towards achieving value in your purchases. For example: I own the thick dumbell handles with revolving sleeves (C 0125) from New York Barbells. Retail Price: $49.95 USD. They are extremely well machined and assembled. I took a long hard look at the Olympic Husky Handle DB's from Ironmind, Retail Price $229.95. Ironmind has great stuff and all, and if the NYBB product was shabby and weak, that would be one thing, but their DB's deliver value, and Ironmind's do not. NYBB buys container load after container load of steel goods from China. And while I don't trust the Chinese to make a decent plasma tv, they can handle a machined steel bar or a cast iron plate. As any veteran scotch afficianado knows, the improvement curve for cask aging levels off sharply ~18-20 years. The difference between 10, 12, and 18 year old scotch from the same distillery can be profound, but when you shell out a thousand bucks for a "30 year old special reserve" you are helping your favorite liquor retailers' bottom line, and getting little in return except awestruck looks/shaken heads amongst your peers. As a businessman, I endeavor to deliver the best value for my clients. There are products we don't deal with because either a) they are cheap crap or b) they are premium priced, but don't deliver best-bang-for-the-buck. In addition, the vendors we deal with "hop to it" if I have a problem, and it gets fixed "yesterday." As a consumer, I endeavor to get the best value for my dollar. I drive the car that I do because it is reliable, good on gas, goes like snot when I drop the hammer, and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. I don't attach prestige to owning a "label" car. A friend of mine owns both a mercedes S-class and a vintage Jag XJ and puts a lot of mental energy into being the guy that owns cars like that. It's not for me, personally. There. End of Rant.
