Scott Styles
I was at Target today and saw the cards pictured here, 2 decks for a $1.00: http://www.gripfaq.com/gb/EasyCards.jpg They were in the dollar section near the entrance of the store. I've heard others say decks like these are easy, so I bought $5 worth of them. Got them home, immediately pulled a pack out of the box, and had at it. Sure enough, the deck started to rip. I gave it all I had and tore my first deck in half!!! Pics: http://www.gripfaq.com/gb/FirstDeckTear.jpg http://www.gripfaq.com/gb/FirstDeckTear2.jpg It's sloppy, took a few minutes, and I was tugging on the cards every which way to finish the deck, but I did it. I'm pleased. I also wish I had bought all the cards they had at Target. Hopefully this means I can work up to a real deck at some point. I have tried Bees in the past and got nowhere with them. Scott Styles
I just ripped my 2nd deck. Even messier than the first, time to put these away
nickr104
I have seen those decks before. Very good decks to learn on and progress towards the harder stuff and the price is right. Nice job Scott

They say poker size and plastic coated on the box. You still tore "a" deck of cards. Edited November 28, 2005 by GarytheDino

Matt Brouse
Wal-mart carries a similar set. But avoid that place if you can. Nice Work.

DieselWeasel
Where can I buy these easy decks online?
GatorGrip
Cutting cards is one of the more entertaining ways to show off. Cards, nails, phone books, wrenches and maybe even horseshoes for some share a common link, people know what these items are and have a general idea that these things are not to be ripped, torn and bent by average human strength. So when these feats are done in front of others the jaws drop, heads start shaking, and the "Oh my God" comments begin to flow. Showing off a little, bringing a smile to peoples faces and giving them something to talk about with the guys ands gals at work. Hey isn't having fun what it is all about? Congrats my friend & keep pressing onward. GATOR
Number Ten Ox
Just got back from the store. My arms were loaded with cards before I realized I was holding "GIANT" playing cards. Same package as before but only one deck of cards inside. I ended up getting 6 regular decks and 7 double size decks. I figure if I can get a clean tear on the big deck then I get one more tear for my money as I'd be left w/2 regular size decks. Anyone ever torn a double size deck? I've never torn a thing so we will see how it goes. It's a rest day, does tearing a big deck count as active rest?
dennisb
Very good. Keep it up.
Number Ten Ox
Any idea how much mess a double deck makes if you try to tear it into as many pieces as possible? Not much counter top space left here. Up to 3/4 reg deck. Clubs and diamonds are def harder than spades and hearts.
Starkmann
Great job Scott. Keep after it. Soon you'll be quartering those cards.
Scott Styles
Thanks guys. My hands are tired today. Gary, I'd consider a "real" deck to be something like Bees or Bicycles. A casino quality playing card. I wouldn't want to claim, "oh yeah, I can rip decks of cards," only to get called out on it and not be able to deliver because I'm ripping the cheapies from Target. With that said, I am plotting on when I can make time to get back to Target and buy the rest of those cards.
bdckr
Nice work, Scott. Number Ten Ox: How did the "giant" decks go? Edited November 28, 2005 by bdckr
GarytheDino
Trumps - easy, good trainers - buy at Walmart Gold Crown -2 for a dollar best place to start for a beginner.... Made in china 2 pack from Dollar Tree Older Mavricks - very good deck, difficult, but not too hard - buy at Dollar store VIP - good deck, solid tear ALL the way through, good grip - buy at Wal-Mart Champions - good deck, a little slippery, solid tear - buy at Dollar store Aviators - tough deck, not too slippery, hard throughout Hoyle Playing cards (what they say on box) Bicycle rider back cards – Difficulty considered high medium New Mavericks - freaking tough, hard to start - very slippery - Dollar Store or Wal-Mart Bicycles buy pretty much anywhere - tough deck - expensive Gemaco casino cards - used Bees- no.92 - buy pretty much anywhere - tough deck - expensive Malaysian Dolphins – Cards have three-ply construction with plastic in between the paper - very tough tear – Dollar Tree Where would the ravens fit into this list. underdawg
I'd say pretty low on that list, Gary, but I haven't tried many of those cards.
nickr104
They are easier than the China cards. Some where in the first 3 I would say.
Number Ten Ox
Shredded 3 normal decks and one giant deck. I don't think I used the same technique twice but my best tear was 3/4 a reg deck w/ a technique I've never seen a picture of. I started w/ the giant deck and only took it half a deck thick @ a time. Pretty easy and clean. Then I started stacking the remaining pieces and just kept tearing and tearing. Ended with almost a full deck thick into about an 8th of a deck section but it is way easier starting with edges that are already torn. When you 8th a deck do you need to keep starting the tear with the finished edge? This is fun. Have card dust all over, wife thinks i'm crazy(er), and thumb pads are fat, tips are raw. afwolf33
hahah yea I went to target the otehr day and was suprised at all the cards for so cheap!! it was heaven, i bought so many i didnt know if they would let me have them. Hope fully i can beef up on my card tearing skills. They are much easier than a real deck but i still have trouble with the whole thing. Number Ten Ox
My thumbs are so sore! I hurt in places I didn't think I had muscle. I didn't really feel like I was working hard but now, after a hard Sunday night and a little more shredding yesterday (and today, I'M NOT ADDICTED) I am gingerly typing. This is fun. Going for a full deck on Thursday after a day of rest.

Then you get to tell her that you are slicing them with your hands and get to see the look on her face. Just a thought, pick out a pretty cashier and go through her lane. Who knows what might happen.
