darkdan
I helped my friend move yesterday. Nothing major. Luckily he's young and hasn't collected as much crap as I have. Grip training definetely helped me though. Not once did I have to say, "Set it down, I'm loosing my grip," or "wait a second my wrists are tired," or "it's slipping." Yet, I heard the other 4 guys saying it a lot! Also, I'm not super strong yet. I can overcrush a #1 and I'm about a 1/4" away from #2. However, that little bit over the oridinary hand strength helped a lot. Therefore, I'm willing to be professional movers aren't up to carpenter hand strength, but I'm sure they're close. StalwartSentinel
They probably develop better forearm strength and supporting grip, than crushing grip.

Movers should have a much better suporting grip than a carpenters.
darkdan
I think the crush was the key to moving the mattress since it didn't have handles or anything. Maybe it was pinch. I just grabbed the edges and made a fist kind of. Can't really decide which it was more of. Trying to remember if I used my thumbs or not. Moving the tables and such it was more supporting and finger strength.

Maybe for the average, overweight person, but not for the average athlete.
Martin
Mike Dayton was supposed to have worked in removals and his grip strength was (I hope still is) amazing.
