The Plank Of Woe

Anguish, despair, misery, wretchedness all words which go through your head when you are hanging on for dear life on the plank of woe!!

Dave unveiled his latest creation tonight - a 3 metre plank of wood with climbing holds of various shapes and sizes evenly spaced about 12 inches apart. At one end weight is attached (no more than 2kg or so). The other end pivots off a fixed point near the ground. The idea is to start by lifting the plank nearest the pivot end and move along the hand holds towards the weighted end. As you move nearer the weighted end the leverage is reduced but the hand holds get more desperate!

This device gives the fingertips a great workout - like nothing else - every gym should have one :)

Sounds cool!

I am trying to visualize this in my head. Wouldn't it be harder if you started at the weighted end and worked towards the pivot?

Rick

The hand holds are easier nearer the pivot and get progressively harder as you move toward the weighted end.

The great thing is that you can move the hand hold around when things get boring too.

Perhaps Dave will post a pic when he gets around to it...

Guys it doesn't cost much. I got the climbing hand holds second hand for about £5, and the wood cost £5 as well.

The end that levers can be affixed to anything really, I will probably make a hinge apparatus for it.

Anyway, if anyone needs specs;

the plank is 3 metres long x 4" x 2". There are 13 handholds, spaced about 7" apart.

Another great thing is you can change the handholds round if you get bored.

The leverage makes a small weight tough. But it feels good on the finger tips, we all seem to like it.

I have my choice of maybe 6-700 different holds so this should be easy to set up - I'll put it at the climbing wall - my garage is stuffed.

Chris,

Be nice to see a pic when you've made it.

Graeme,

Yeah, just leave it in the garden.

By the way you can get lots of cheap climbing holds on ebay.
