billgrant Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 A climber friend of mine recommended Metolius Rock Rings as a portable solution to increase contact (open hand) finger strength and as a generally good tool to use for pulls/chins. Just wondering if anyone out there is using them; I figure they're only fifty bucks so I'll probably get them anyways. climber511 Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Portable yes - but if possible, I'd go with the hangboard instead - much more versitle, especially for open hand stuff. kperrone Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I have them and like them a lot. The hangboard does offer more holds but you have to deal with your arms being relatively fixed. I like that my arms move freely on the rock rings, it seems to cause less elbow issues. I have them set up with chains so I can change the height of one or both, good for working lockoffs, 1 arms, and muscle-ups. -Kevin Quote

Number Ten Ox Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 I have hung on them a few times but never really trained on them because whenever I was around them it was at well, a climbing gym. So why hang on rings when there was so much stimulation nearby. Now that it is cold and rainy with no decent gym w/in a 2 hours drive I would kill for a pair. They have one billion uses. unseenbeat Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 We have a pair at the local gym, and personally, I think they complement a good hangboard well.
