You think anyone made fun of his pink t-shirt? That was impressive.

The only man who'd stand a chance making fun of his shirt would be Kaz (in the background at the end)....

That was unreal, the press looked pretty easy too :blink

It had been two years since I had seen that. I am glad you unearthed it, as it is probably my favorite clip of all time. Thanks!

June 2002 AOBS

At the time, some called it the greatest feat of strength of modern times

I didn't even know what the Gripboard was at the time but my brother directed me to Cyberpump a couple days after it happened, and I watched it around 27 times. It is just as cool to watch now as the first time I saw it.

In the March 2002 Arnold Strongman, the competition that Henry entered and won, after the competition was over, they had an exhibition event that not all the competitors participated in. The goal was how high to pull the Inch. Henry high pulled it and won. Phil Phitzer(spelling I know) rested it on his thigh, and then pleased the heck out of the crowd and put it overhead. He did not win, but Arnold gave him the same dollars as Henry("good show, good show"). Rumor was it was Maria and the kids' favorite thing of the whole expo.

Rumor was also that Terry Todd had told Henry not to try to clean the sucker as he had never touched one before and he could injure himself. Henry may have been upset that his winning effort was not better received by the crowd.

So, three months later, he may have had something to prove, hence the ANIMAL INTENSITY he displayed, including practically throwing the weight onto the table of dignitaries after it was over. I heard that he thought that up to then he had not gotten the respect that he should have.

Well, that's what I heard 3 years ago, maybe it is all Urban Myth.

Definitely some amazing stuff would been awesome to be there. He is the only one to modern day to have clean and pressed it without and assist in the middle isn't he?

Yeah, I was the one that shot that footage... boy, was that a great night! At the end, he picks it up with his left hand like he's picking up a light suitcase and delivers it onto the table right in front of Vic Boff. I was the one that took it off the table and put it back on the floor. BTW, that shirt he's wearing is RED, not pink!! :D

There is Spielberg, Scorsese, Michael Mann, Clint Eastwood, Coppola, and ....

Sybersnott!

Wow, I had no idea...

My opinion of Sybersnott just went up quite a few notches. That is a REALLY cool video. All these years, and I didn't know...I am impressed!! :bow

That needs to be added to your Life Resume, if it is not already on it.

I'm glad you re-posted this clip. It is one that should never be lost or forgotten.

We supplied the actual Inch Bell Mr. Henry lifted and it is now on display at Sorinex for any grip pilgrim to have his try at it when they visit! RS

Actually not.

Thomas Inch also lifted it with no assist in the middle and - which is even better - with almost no muscles.

Thomas Inch almost certainly NEVER lifted the 172lb dumbbell. Read what Roark has written on the subject.

not for nothing, but if anyone who sees that clip of Thomas Inch lifting that dumbell believes that it weighed 172 lbs.,(no offense to anyone) they're nuts... that clip and the ease in which he lifted the bell--- just goes to prove that he was a fraud(in terms of that particular feat, anyway). but as an aside, where does ryan green come into consideration? i'm guessing that he didn't do it under the proper conditions for it to be considered official?

I'm pretty sure there is a video floating around of canadian strongman ryan green also clean and pressing (no leg drive) an inch replica. A couple others have possibly done it, but there is actual video evidence of R.G. clean and pressing it.

Mazza,

Ryan Greens lift sure looked offical to me, and at least an equal to Mark Henerys lift. The only thing Mr. Green didn't do is lift the Inch with his opposite hand and walk with it.

yeah green really did do it fairly easily... but who was there to weigh it? and only a few witnesses... i guess that tells you that if you're gonna do something of historic proportion--- do it at a major gathering in front of a lot of people...

Not sure your reply concerns my post or not Steve ?

Anyway, don't worry i was having fun ("with almost no muscles"...).

I read Joe's articles.

That is only a small portion of a lot of video that I shot that night. After it was done, Mark got up on the dais (raised platform) and spoke to the entire group there; a very moving and heartfelt speech. He earned my respect and many of those in attendance that night. :)

I think I still have that video, in it's entirety, somewhere in my stuff.... :blush
