The grippers are torque ratings (ip) and is a way to compare

grippers to one another.

Weights are actual poundages and do not compare directly with torque

ratings. I know it is frustrating, but they are two different measures.

remember the grippers aren't calibrated (they would be hundreds of dollars if they were). knowing this, a gripper "rated" at 190 ip probably is not really that number. it could be more, it could be less. never try to compare poundages it will just give u a headache. just use the machine as a strength tool.

...not to mention the fact that every gripper maker seems to use a slightly different system to measure the strength of the grippers. Best not to worry about the numbers.(for training purposes)

Also don't forget that "190" on the gripper is at the closed position, the grip machine its 190 from start to finish!!! Just think how hard the gripper would be if it started at 190lbs !!!

like I was told when I first came to the board, go by the wire size forget the poundage rating, use the poundage rating when you're impressing your friends, works for me. :D

Gripper poundages are a nominal number that are a rough off the top of someone's head estimate.

That "someone" is here on the forum; well-known but I ain't tellin'!! :D
