foggymountainmuscle
I first learned about the gripboard on the N.A.S.S. forums when someone was talking about Ron Mozza and how he was one of the original CoCs. There was a referance to the gripboard in there. Hearing about a board focused on grip (my favorite stuff) I immeadiately checked it out. The rest is history, all because of people talking about how impressed they were with Ron Mozza! Cool photos, I wish I could train in a place like that. terminator
Thanks guys, it really was a great time. A lot of amazing stuff wasn't captured on film. First off, let me say how impressed I am with the Nowack brothers, these guys are world class strength athletes and about the nicest guys you'll meet. Ditto for another guy named Adam Keep (sp?), this guy is 21 years old, and Ron said as soon as we walked in that this guy came out of nowhere and almost won the amateur nationals. Seriously explosive dude.....shouldered a 308 concrete stone, multiple reps with an over 300lb log, at about 230lbs or less......other stuff too, keep an eye on him. As for Ron, everybody knows how impressed I am with him, and it's great to call him a friend. Anyway, he walks into the gym, totally cold to the 375lb Nowack stone (Kirk is the only guy who's lifted the stone to this point). Before you guys start getting ahead of yourself, this is a rough granite stone, not concrete, and let me tell you there is a world of difference. He gives a tentative pull and it goes nowhere, nobody says anything because many very powerful competitive strongmen have done nothing with this stone. Ron utters a few choice words to himself and sinks down on it again and it pops up into his lap......then bang way up the chest. Surprises everyone else except me and Ron. Camera wasn't there at that point, pictures are from later on after many many log presses when he banged out another one. Seriously impressive stuff. Kirk later said this should be the Nowack-Mazza stone. As for me weighing in at a blistering 172lbs (two weeks of bronchitis) I was happy to get a few reps high on the chest with their 308 stone, no tacky or chalk. I was also thrilled to bend a 7 X 5/16" bar a good bit harder than FBBC stock with this stone in my lap then crush a #3 righty and lefty with the stone still there. I tried to duplicate this at the end of the day for the camera, but my arms were so torn up all I could manage was the 242 with a 6" Red Nail. Got the dang thing to about 90 degrees with the stone in my lap and called it a day....after the picture with Kirk I finished it and some other stuff. Great day, got to meet some very strong guys, including Steve Pulcinella and made some good friends. Doesn't get much better than that.....unless Steve could have been there. MikeP
Pat....Before you guys start getting ahead of yourself, this is a rough granite stone, not concrete, and let me tell you there is a world of difference. Why do you think so many strong guys fail with the Inver stone? Its "only" 265lbs... Nice horseshoe work Pat. Those 5's are scary I'm sure. Quote "Any day without an injury is a PR." allrounder74
It really was a hell of day. I picked Pat up early in the morning and after a quick stop at Pats dads house, we managed to find our way over to Ironsport Gym in Philly. Although it was about a 3 hr trip, it was worth every minute. It's not too often you can immerse yourself in a training session with 3 professional strongmen, an amateur soon to be pro(Adam Keep), the worlds best bender(Pat) and a visit from a former WSM competitor in Steve Pulcinella. Quite a group! Let me say i'm not one who lacks motivation, but after having Kirk outdo me in the tire flip (930 tire)6 flips to 4 and Adam do just as many flips as me, and Kirk, Kevin, and Adam out lift me in the log, and both Kirk and Kevin shoulder the concrete 308 stone where I failed, I found myself eating some humble pie! It was definitely a nice little kick in the ass----- but then again I love a good challenge! Pat joined in with some stone lifting as well and would be hard to beat at 175 in a strongman show---- if I could ever convince him to do one! And of course, Pat also drew quite the little crowd showing off his unparalleled bending ability. He may have to switch careers soon, as he's a hell of a showman! Afterwards, we all headed down to the local pizza joint and bullshitted for a couple hours getting a little fatter in the meantime. A perfect end to a great day! Sybersnott
Afterwards, we all headed down to the local pizza joint and bullshitted for a couple hours getting a little fatter in the meantime. ← Whoa, whoa, whoa.... not so fast there mister!! What kind of pizza was it? Did you get the "LARGE"? How many pieces did Pat eat? Did you guys drink beer with your pizza? What did you guys bullshit about? These are questions that we want to know the answers to. Oh, and you still haven't answered me and John's original question: Why doesn't Pat have his own website?!? Quote "I have always been strong.
