Bill Piche
We had another incident in chat today. That makes 3 incidents in the chats lifetime here. In all three cases, they were reported by members to me. So, that means I have to investigate. In the first incident, we had a lifetime banning as a result. In fact, in the lifetime banning, the person crossed the line with physical threats. Investigate does not me determining "he said, she said" and on heresay. All GOOD chat software and companies that provide these features perform "logging" for obvious reasons (legal, threats, problem members, etc.). If you think AOL or MSN is not logging think again. So, if a member reports an incident in chat I WILL pull the chat logs and investigate. So, if you were part of an incident in chat or caused it and it's reported, you can bet your gripper you will get caught with your pants down -- especially if you lie about it. The chat license expires at the end of November. I am not sure it's worth the investment to renew it if I have to continue to get reports of incidents and have to pull chat logs to investigate. In the meantime, chat will remain unmoderated and let's start with a clean slate among ALL members. Thanks everyone.
Clay Edgin
Just 3 incidents? We've had more slapfights and locked posts on the board in the last month!
Bill Piche
Just 3 incidents? We've had more slapfights and locked posts on the board in the last month! ← Yeah, but with Chat Clay it's like people go "no holds barred" when these things errupt. It's gotten really LOW. Some of the tiffs on the board are like flower sessions in comparison. Things got personal VERY quickly in these incidents. Maybe this will now deter people from ever "letting go" like they did in these 3 incidents when I know they would never do it in person nor on the main forum. We are all grown men and if you don't like what someone says ignore them...leave the chat...don't respond...etc. It's sad that our chat was used for such things, but the people involved should have exchanged numbers or addresses and settled it on their own. I like the chat feature and enjoy talking to the people on this board.

foggymountainmuscle
Repeatedly bitching at a person with obscene language and physical threats (in a chatroom mind you) are not activities "grown men" are caught ingauging in. I've seen chat sessions go sour, the only people who ignore them and leave are the other people who have nothing to do with the problem. The very fact that the chat is in danger of being taken away is a tragic situation that all members may have to live with due to people choosing the gripboard as an avenue of verbal harassment. Now guys it's easy to stand on the soap box here but all of us need to speak up and step in when this happens in chat, these things wouldn't get reported if only two parties were involved. SHRUG
The chat is the best feature of the entire board, it allows us to talk to guys from all over the world about all kinds of training. Shutting it down would be a shame.
