A Couple General Questions

Just got back here a couple days ago, and am shifting the focus to mainly grip related stuff... I put up an album and everything...

Anyway, a couple days back I had my first real bending session. I think I did alright, but have one question. I plan on doing some bending on an average of once a week, maybe twice. Aside from progressing slowly, which I know needs to be done in bending, should I be working toward getting rid of the cloth, i.e., bending without a piece of denim or leather? Or is it acceptable to always use that as an aid to the skin?

Second question on gripping. Lot's of people have written how fond John Brookfield is of the block weights (blobs). Is that not relatively the same kind of lifting as with thick bars? The angle of the fingers seems similiar (depending on blob size and bar diameter).

Third, tying in with the previous question, I wanted to say that I agree with what Bender has written on his site about the training of block weights (int.e., thick diameter / overall hand strength in my case) having a better relation to gripper closing than just gripper training. I was using just grippers and kettlebells before, and could close the number 2 and get the 3 to about half. Since working with my Cammed 2.5 Inch DB, and bending, my hands feel stronger and I can grind the handles of the 2 and get the 3 to about 9 or 10 mm regularily, although I haven't done any gripper only training in quite a few weeks. Layoff effect, or product of better training? Or both? I'll keep going forward and see.

I'll answer one - it is always ok to use an aid to pad the skin. Whether it should be cloth or leather is debateable. To bend bare handed you need to kill all of the nerves in the palms of your hand and repeatedly damage it so the scar tissue becomes rock hard.

... not a desireable result. OK, so no raw bending. Thanks.
