sigmfsk
Well, I had a lot of wasted space above the stairs to get to the basement (which is basically my bedroom). So I put in a climbing rope, horizontal rope, and zip-line (for some extra excitment). Is this the best exercise for grip; maybe not, but its fun, and it sure seems like a good workout doing it several times a day. Especially when I'm asleep and have to go upstairs to use the bathroom. I put some picks in my gallery: http://www.gripboard.com/index.php?act=mod...album&album=

Darco
Hope you have another exit out in case of fire, earthquake, whatever. ← We refer to this as "extra motivation" around here. Kindof like when I'm pulling a deadlift and my bud will say "hurry get that *bleepin* bar off of those hot gymnasts it's crushing!" ---seems to work sigmfsk: how many times do you usually go upstairs in a day ? CMunger
Hope you have another exit out in case of fire, earthquake, whatever. ← Well, it's not like the stairs are gone or anything... The mats in the way might cost him a half a second.

Sean Dockery
Outstanding! I'm betting you'll see a drop in grip performance for the next couple months then a bunch of pr's when your hands adapt.
sigmfsk
I go up & down about a dozen times a day. The hardest part (besides being exhausted at the end of the day), is climbing the rope while carrying whatever needs to be taken to/from the basement. I had (2) 25 lb plates to take to the basement - even those in a backpack is enough for me to feel it. Heck, I feel it with no weights! I sometimes have twinges of my right tennis elbow, and whenever that happens I move the mats and use the stairs for a day or two. I don't ever want to feel that elbow pain again. Thanks for the comments guys; I'm pleased how it all turned out. Long term possibility, slanting a wall in and making it a hanging/climbing wall! sigmfsk
I'm married, but currently I'm in Michigan, and my wife is in Texas, and she comes and works up here two weeks a month. Yes its getting old, but we're still trying to figure out the two-career thing. The upstairs is hers. The basement is mine. I joked that she's welcome in the basement.... but on MY terms. If she wants to bring friends over and shoot pool in the basement, thats great, but if I left some old underwear on the table or something - then shoot around it! Suzie hasn't seen the installation yet because we skipped a visit. I figure the only part in which I might get in trouble was the attachment to the wall up in the "upstairs" portion of the house, as its not technically the basement. But I considered it like a DMZ, and I was able to get in, get the attachments, and get out alive, so she's stuck with it now. I might even go so far to paint the 2x6s someday, so it all "matches". EricMilfeld
May it never be said that sigmfsk is not a serious trainer of grip. That's like the Taj Mahal of gripdom. Maybe I'll dig me a basement.

Fatboy250
Is this the best exercise for grip Certainly a very good grip exercise, but IMO a superb upper back exercise. I had a 40 ft climbing rope in my back yard that I used during my BB days (~ 10 yrs ago). A full climb to the top with no leg assistance is one helluva back workout. Keep up the good work!
