rbrown
at the GNC of strength I got an Inch DB from my friend Chad Woodall. I got it on Friday night, but didn't really want to mess with it much until after the strongman contest on Fri, Sat and Sun ended. I couldn't resist tried it a couple of times though and was pleased to see that I can still lift it with left and right hands. After the contest a ton of people tried it and I would try it each time someone new would approach. My forearms are fried now...lol I'll let my forearms heal and then get some vids or pics of some lifts with it. I'm excited about training with this thing. The possibilities are endless. Once my forearms rest up I can't wait to get out there and start messing with it. I'll keep you posted.

Now on to cleaning and pressing it. -Jedd- ← Jedd; went fairly well. Here is a cut and paste from another board I post on Got 2nd in my weight class (265s) out of maybe 18 guys--not sure exactly how many. Got 12th overall, which includes the 265 weight class, 300 weight class and the SHW weight class--about 45 guys total. Given the group that was there and given certain weaknesses I have, I was fairly pleased with the end result. Friday I got near last on the log press--think I only beat 4 guys out of 45 so I lost a ton of points there. I only managed to clean and press the 250 12" log and missed the 275 log. I thought I had a shot at the 275 log going into the event, but knew the 300 and 325 logs were not going anywhere. I need to start training overhead consistently. I slowly crawled back into the event with the squat next, deadlift, and tire flip/drag medley--only a few beat me on each of these. Squat was a car squat (710 lbs on the back) for reps--I got 13, but only got credit for 11 because I squatted too fast and did not listen to the down signal. My thoughts here were 1) it was sucky that I had to use a stance just wider than shoulder width, but felt good considering I only train wide stance back squats--there was no notice this is how it would be; 2) it was lighter than they said it woud be--I did no rep training and just got by with my max strength; 3) was crappy that I went near last on the overhead event and then had to go close to first on the squat event--I was still out of breath. Good event though. Rolling Thunder contest - pulled 207; just missed with 222. I think this was good for third. Saturday Deadlift was a truck deadlift (also supposed to be 710 lbs in the hands); got 12 reps here and was toast afterwards. Very similar to Clin't s Caddy. I got 16 on it, but here my back felt a little toasted from the squat. Good event, but also much lighter than I had been told--felt I got by on my max strength but felt out of shape for the reps. It was crappy that we stood around all day to do one event. We were supposed to do the medley today. Sat night I filled the tub up with ice and cold water and got in it for 15 mins to try to calm my back down. Sunday Next even was the 770 tire flip for 5 flips then drag an 800 lb sled back 60 ft. The tire was very similar to our training tire so I think I was faster than anyone on this, but lost a little ground on the sled. Still stayed up close to the top though. Sled was lighter than I had been training so I didn't row it as I had planned to do; times were very fast. I think I completed the entire event in 40 seconds. Stones were last--load 260, 300, 335, 365 and 385 stones to 54". I only got 2 out of 5, which is not good for me, but apparently most guys were dead from al of the prior events, because I actually moved up 1 placement in my weight class by loading 2 stones in a fast time. I had the third stone 335 lbs almost on, but it slipped off and I could not gather the energy to get it back up. Overall, my impressions were that I need to be in better shape in terms of being able to keep on going at the end of the contest. I faded and felt like it would have been hard to deadlift 600 lbs by the end of the weekend. I think our WSB style training is awesome for building strength for maxes as I felt very strong, but feel I need to work more stone medleys on Saturdays even if I am tired. We have just been doing singles. I got a lot of ideas for overhead training while there. It was a very long weekend. I was glad to come back with some hardware. My goals were to win the 265s and to take top 10 overall. I fell just short on both goals, but as for winning the 265s I feel no shame in losing to Mr. Henry Cervenka; the guy was a complete freakshow--awesome competitor. Had I been able to do something decent on the stones I think top 10 would have happened, but I'm sure a lot of people can say similar things. Clay Edgin
Wow, you're a strong mofo Ryan. Do you think the 710lb squat and deadlift really felt like 710 the whole way through the lift? I would get stapled to the ground with authority if I tried to squat 710 on a bar; how does that compare to the apparatus that was being used? I would get stapled to the ground with authority if I tried to squat 710 on a bar; how does that compare to the apparatus that was being used? ← Clay, it is really hard to say. The deadlift was on the sides like picking up farmers walk implements and it was from about that height--14" or so. It was probably not 710 at the bottom, but I'd say it was at least that at the top. I can probably pick up about 825 or so like that for a max with farmers implements. On the squat, I've hit 905 on a parallel wide stance squat, but I'm not as strong with the stance I had to take at the contest so I'm not sure how to compare it. One thing that makes the squat easier is that you can lean into it so it is different than using a barbell. On the deadlift I used no suit, but used straps. On the squat I used my Titan Boss poly, which is a great suit.

danegarreau
I had a chance to try the Inch this weekend, It is crazy hard, all it did was roll around. Ryan, i was talking to Travis and he said the squat felt a lot heavier at the top than the bottom.
