mossman
very shortly, i will be starting KTA for the #3...this is a huge accomplishment for me, so im not willing to jeapordize it for anything. i do have a question though. i will be entering a powerlifting meet about 1 month after finishing KTA. my pet lift is the deadlift, which is what im doing in the meet. i understand i cant do regular deads on KTA, but can i do them if i use straps? if not, i understand, and will just do good mornings to help my back strength....however it would be nice to be able to continue deads
Bill Piche
Your normal workouts are fine. Deadlifts are fine. Deadlifts specifically to used to blast your grip: no. No need to use straps either. Just make sure you do your grip work AFTER your normal lifting workouts. I always find I am stronger with a good sweat up and some squats or deads in me. crs9740
I hate to ask questions about KTA because " No other grip work" is pretty self- explanatory, but would a wrist roller be considered grip work? I understand most all forearm work would work your grip to some extent. What, if any, forearm work would you reccomend while on KTA? Thanks. -CHRIS tried a search but couldnt find anything. Bill Piche
When it says no other direct grip work, that's what it means. That means exercises targeted to the grip and forearms directly such as thick bar lifts, wide pinching, wrist curls, wrist roller, etc. However, what it doesn't mean is you stop your normal training such as exercises where you have to hold or grab a bar such as deadlifts or chins. EricMilfeld
Wanna's advice has proven valid for me. Going heavy with 1" diameter bars has never hurt my grippers. In fact unlike some, I can continue doing narrow pinches with no ill effect on the grippers, but maybe it's best you play it safe in this area. But forearm work such as rollers, wrist curls and any type of thick bar work, have always killed my grippers. For a real life example consider what happened to me at Weldon's one day. I did about a 100 foot walk with a 1 1/2" handled farmer's implements, rested a bit and tried my grippers. I failed to get my #3 within 1/4" of closure, despite the fact that I was routinely getting two or three reps with the same gripper. So just that extra 1/2" of diameter was enough to throw off my gripper performance. By the way, I can do farmer's with my 1" handles with no ill effect. austinslater
Plate pinches dont seem to bother me either but I would play it safe and stick with the pony clamp untill after a run through kta then afterwords experiment and you will find what works best for you. Good Luck Austin
Lyle
I went through KTA to the letter twice, once for dominating the #2 then to close the #3 "ahich I can do with a deep set" I kept regular deadlifting throughout the entire proram(s) will no ill effects, on word of advice, on DL days do the grippers first. SqeezeMasterFlash
You might want to do your deads with a revere grip instead of double overhand though
