austinslater
Who has done this feat? Sorin and Gorrilla hands come to mind. Has anyone else done this? Thanks in advance. Austin
MikeP
They said it was casual for Kinney. Oh, and that Potts guy. Oh, that was my trainer, NM. How the DBs working for ya? We need to talk about the PVC blob.

denver
There is a picture of Nathan Holle doing it in Milo. I was part of the write-up for him closing the #4.
MikeP
What about Clay's big ass? I mean, I know Clay's ass could shut a 3 (with a deep set ) but I don't know if he can do one with 2 fingers. Clay?
jad
I thought Stefan Straub had a video of this in his gallery. It looked more like a 2 fingered hold than a close but anytime I"ve seen anybody do two-fingered stuff it's usually set pretty deep anyway. Anybody know what the allowed set-depth is on two-fingered stuff? I know there's nothing official but where do you draw the line between a hold and a close? Thanks. FrankyBoy
Good point. Its quite easy for me to do a one-finger hold with the #1 and a two-finger hold with the #2 or the Super Master. A two-finger CLOSE of the #3 is a total different story. I never saw this feat. I thought Stefan Straub had a video of this in his gallery. austinslater
Im interested as well as what counts as a close. I would love to know who has done a hold as that is impressive.
Darco
Judging from what I've tried anything passed 3/8" or so doesnt let my fingers wrap around it, just giving the point of view of a small handed gent. Matt Van Weele
There was never any good proof of Sorins close. Heath told me he did it but that was around last year at this time. There was no proof of him doing it but I beleive him.

I would love to know who has done a hold as that is impressive. ← Oh heck yeah, it's impressive and I'd be very happy if I could do a 2 finger #3 hold. I guess my personal definition of a hold for now, would be cheating it completely shut with two hands and holding it shut with one/two fingers, etc... When I do two finger closes I set it pretty deep, but I definetly close it with 2 fingers it's not some sleight of hand trick that's really a hold. I also noticed if you wrap your thumb the 1 fingered #1 close is MUCH easier, you can almost pull it shut with your thumb.
JamesG
edit: Austin under james account Jad, I would consider the way you do it a close and not a hold. I set it fairly deep with my off hand on top of the spring and try to let off at an inch or so and then finish the close with 2 fingers. Sounds similar to what you do. 1stCoC
Mr Van Weele......To set the record straight. My two finger closes were done on the Original Iron mind silver crush gripper (the same one shown in most of my pictures) My best with it being two reps. This was done by just putting it in my hand and squeezing because I never knew of or used a deep set in my career. Before you get in a snit about some rule #4 be advised my son is in the process of forwarding a picture of me doing this feat to the grip page. 1stCoC
By the way that particular gripper has been tried by a number of captains of crush (even during successful cretification tries a the modern #3) and I never have seen it shut by anyone else EXCEPT Heath Sexton. This gripper has made the "rounds" for at least three Old Time Barbell strongman dinners with only Heath shutting it. RS
1stCoC
The picture and two finger closes were done circa 1991. The photo has been sent to Wannagrip.RS

Matt Van Weele
But isn't it true that the old #3's had no official numbers on the handles?

RS ← If you have Sorin's video "Straight Talk by Richard Sorin" you can see the picture of the 2-finger close of the silver crush gripper. For what it is worth, I gave the silver crush a go at Night of Strength 2. Even with a deep set, I only got it down to 1/4" at best. And this was when, IMO, my crush was at its absolute best as I was training for the MM1 cert. Rick Walker
OldGuy
If you have Sorin's video "Straight Talk by Richard Sorin" How can that be obtained?
Rick Walker
Oldguy- That was a video that was sold with the proceeds going to The GripBoard. I believe there were only 20 copies sold. It was first come first serve and it was at least 2 years or more ago when Bill did this. I was lucky enough to get a copy.
