kelby
i tested my brothers grip with my new number ones. he closed them four times. that is pretty impressive considereing he doesn't workout. other people i tried could not do except one (he is a mountain climber). i am proud of my bro. but in all honesty i believe we were born with a good grip. even when it came to armwrestling we won alot of matches. we even beat a couple world champs. but it is on the bar room table. different from the armwrestling table. I'm a pretty skinny guy, but I destroyed the #1 with both hands the day that I got it. My dad never works out (unfortunately) and I'm almost convinced he could close a #3. He isn't really in shape, but he is just so strong. Tell your brother about the Gripboard! He sounds like he has great potential. How old is he? milkbone
Hey, that's great man. Not many people can close the #1 even if they had it for a week to play with. That already puts you both above the average population. Sounds like you both have a great grip strength base to build on.
king crusher
im starting to disagree with the notion of beginners NOT closing the #1. 9 out of 10 i give it to can close it. and i hear most on here could close it first try. so i think its the minority, not magority who can not close the #1 first time. just my own personal experiance. my 17 yr old bro got a rep my computer nerd friend got a few. so???? Lyle
it's cool to have that strenght naturally, I have a new partner the other day and he walked in and closed my filed #1 with a no set. and he's probably 170lb at 5'10"
milkbone
I still think the percentage of the population that can close the #1 first try is very low. It took me a few attempts to close it the day I got it and I'd never done any direct grip work, besides doing all pulling exercises without straps. I think what kind of work you've done in the past can play a role too.

ulgrim
Knowing how to set it makes all the difference. Average men can't no-set a #1 first try, but a lot of men can with a set.

If they know how to ''set'' a gripper then the result may be better
Lyle
Are new #1's getting weaker?? anyone with a few have any thoughts??~Steve ← I think that question went around before and the general thought was that the grippers were staying the same "after seasoning" and we are all getting stronger. It just happens every now and then that a person walk in and slams a #1.

MikeP
My brother (30yrs old, 5'10" about 160lbs) picked up my 1/2 85lb hex block the first time. He didn't use his index finger either. I still have a hard time being consistent with it. It shocked me pretty good cause I said it would feel like it was glued to the floor He lays flooring and is always using his hands. I think its a family trait though. He has good biceps too and doesn't do crap. One year he hit the chicken, tuna, and weights hard. Went up to like 175 and looked good. Oh well. Sybersnott
Average men can't no-set a #1 first try, but a lot of men can with a set. ← I disagree. Given the knowledge I have of the grippers, I'm of the opinion that the "average man" can't close a #1, whether they can set it or not. ulgrim
I didn't say average men can set-close it. I said the average man can't no-set it. I agree with you, few can close it either way. It's just that the number who can set-close it is higher than those who can no-set it.
