Bill Piche
If you click on Gallery, you will see a NEW category called GripBoard Movie Gallery. You can now post video clips in BOTH .mov and .wmv format. I tested it and it works really cool. Also, members now get 10 MEG of disk space to use. Yup, I upped it from 5 to 10 Meg of space. The maximum movie size you can upload is 3 meg. That should be adequate. Most are less than 1-2 meg. You simply click on Media instead of Image when uploading. One thing to remember is that videos will take significantly longer to upload (depends on your connection too) so be patient after you hit the submit button to upload. If you need a movie compressed, simply email me at editor@cyberpump.com with your request and I will compress it and upload it for you. Or, if you simply don't want to mess with it, I will do the work for you and upload the movies. Enjoy! Bill
Bill Piche
You should also be able to post movie clips in your own personal galleries as well.
The Mac
Bill, How many hours a week do you spend on this site, as apart from Cyberpump, Ironhistory etc? I'm amazed you ever get the chance to work at all!!

MikeP
Bill, what software do you use for working with .mov? My camera is .mov but they are huge and I would rather convert them to .wmv but the way I've been doing it is tough and makes a very unpredictable and crappy copy. BTW, thanks for all the hard work on the site. Edited October 4, 2004 by MikeP
Scott Styles
http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm The RAD video tools found here can convert .mov files to .avi or .wmv files. It's kind of lossy, but plenty good for lifting stuff. And free. If you need to work with video and are running windows XP, service pack 2 has a great update to the windows movie maker. Makes it almost as good as the ifilm software that comes with a mac.

I always convert the BIG .mov files to .avi and then to .wmv using MovieMaker that comes with Windows XP. Edit: Whoops. Scott beat me to it. MikeP
I was doing the RAD thing from .mov to .avi but then I had trouble getting those .avi to go to .wmv reliably. Also, they generrally look like crap. What .avi codec do you use? I was using Adobe Premiere 6.5 but it was still kind of hit and miss. Bill Piche
I just use the default by clicking "convert a file" and do not change a thing. It works pretty well. I then IMPORT it into MovieMaker and convert to wmv
Scott Styles
The conversion of .mov to .avi definitely causes a big hit in quality for me. I just use the codec that is installed when quicktime installs. The issue is the RAD video tools. I tried converting a .mov to .avi using a piece of sharware I found on the web, and there was no quality or sound loss. But it put a big smiley over a large portion of the image, since it was shareware. Registration was like $40, so I settled for the RAD video tools. Really, what would be nice is a windows app that allows for editing of .mov files. I haven't found a free one though. Next camera I buy, I'm getting one that records in mpeg4 instead of quicktime format. I don't understand why kodak would make a camera for the pc that records in quicktime format.
