kelby
i was wondering if anyone ever got serious injuries from doing heavy grip work, or working the wrists?
Vice
I never have... but I've only been training grip for about 4 months or so.
OrangeCrush
I'm not sure this falls under "serious," but I injured my left hand overworking grippers the first three days after I received them. I think it's a tendon injury, and I feel it in my middle finger when I'm crushing a #1 or #2. It's been 3 months, and though it's gotten better, it hasn't disappeared. vince
i had that same problem orangecrush stated, left hand as well. but for me, at one time, just making a fist was painful. but no problems now at all. left hand was also taking lots of volume and no problem at all. how did i get rid of the problem? i just let it rest for a couple months. stay strong!! ulgrim
use common sense, like with other training, and you shouldn't get injured.
John Wood
What would common sense dictate?
napalmpk
injured the upper part of my forearm when starting pinch grips. But got better after and finally dissapeared when incorporated farmer walks with a 2 inch grip. and recently injured the whole area surrounding my elbow (top & botttom) when i armwrestled for the first time after 5 yrs. But after 6 days of careful training 90% of the pain is gone by the grace of God. and besides i think an injury is good for a person, u find out many new exercises. Zevich
What would common sense dictate? Not grip training on a high bar stool while sampling adult beverage.
Revtor
ALWAYS WARM UP!! I had the left hand tendon thing too.. it really sucked. but I let it rest for a few months with NO training and now its all gone.. I find that a warm up is essential. Usually a long soak in hot water while making fists is good to do it and then some trainer reps.. wait 5 minutes and im good to go. I have slender hands and fingers though, maybe some of you with thicker, more well padded and "strapped together" hands can go at it a bit wilder.. ALWAYS WARM UP!! Its so easy to grab a hard gripper and give it your all without warming up for it, remember, you have to approach grip training like any other kind of musuclar work out. You wouldnt work out any other body part with max weight with no warm up would you? ~Steve Im sure the winding of the spring has to do with how it torques the hands' joints, tedons, etc.. Maybe this is why we have a few cases of blown out left hands? Maybe lefty grippers should be wound this way? Any thoughts, any Lemley (lefty wound spring) experience?? mrzero
What would common sense dictate? Not grip training on a high bar stool while sampling adult beverage. the 2x 144oz mile walk is one of my favourite grip exercises to do on the way home from work. Just hang each twelve pack off the last two fingers.
dannyboy
the only ''injury' i had so far is some caluses ripping off.
SqeezeMasterFlash
I've had tendonitis, but it was always caused by my own overenthusiasm. Progress gradually, always warm up and recover properly and you'll be fine.
ulgrim
what I mean by common sense is stuff like don't train when your injured, stop if it hurts(in a bad way), make gradual progress, warm up if you need to, give yourself recovery time every once in a while, etc
