heatwave13 Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 (edited) Pardon my ignorance but I have an honest gripper question to follow up with. When I am doing reps on my #2 COC am I supposed to go for all-out, 100% max with each rep? I usually do a 5-4-3-2-1 rep pattern or just several triples but on EVERY rep I am straining--100% trying to squeeze the life out the handles. Is this wrong? Should I treat these reps like I would with, say, military presses where I use 75-80% on my low reps? Another thing I would like to know is how supporting strength workouts might help, for example farmers walk or Rolling Thunder, which should be arriving today or monday! How have you all worked in rt/thickbar stuff with your regular training?/ :stuart Edited September 10, 2004 by heatwave13 Quote ..yes I like Dixie, well ain't it fine here..I like to pick my guitar down at Hank's BBQ and drink that Shiner Boch beer..down here in Dixie, there ain't no doubt... just listen to me, cause I know what I'm talking about..
opnsysme Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 I find no matter what gripper you use or the weight being lifter you should give it 100% effort. As far as max attempt with grippers, I believe no one pattern is the best all the time. I think you should use a training style with 100% effort for a given time then switch to another program. Depending on what type of muscle make up you have in your hands and how much you actually use them for hard hand work will be a starting point for what type of grip routine to start with. For example if you are in a job that requires strong hands then you can probablly start off with a routine that envolves heavy singles or high reps, if you don't use your hands I would recommend starting with a lighter volume with a sub max gripper, but don't linger to long at the lower levels. I believe the body to be highly adaptable , especially the hands. You also can do a search for topics, the one that comes to mind is one from Jedd Johnson in which he asks about routines for newbies. Scott Styles Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 http://www.gripboard.com/index.php?showtopic=9240 Because hand strength is much more dependent upon tendon strength and maximally taxing the small muscles in the hand doesn't destroy the entire body, 100% effort on each squeeze is ok. You can't draw a full comparison between training the core, major muscles and the small ones in the hand. Quote You don't get a dog and do the barking yourself.
Zevich Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 I seperate RT or thickbar work from crush grip with the grippers. I divide a week into three sections: 1 for RT & thickbar, 1 for crush grip, and 1 for blockwork. Quote IT AIN’T THE YEARS – IT’S THE MILES IF IT AINT BROKE - BREAK IT!
