itch85 Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Hey id just like opinions or facts on this subject because im sure ive heard that thickbar training ruins your crush strength or did my eyes decieve me? Ive just got a new thickbar to start training with but im worried about my crush depleating when ive worked hard to get it where it is now. Quote Last Gripper Closed = #2 Next Gripper to Close = BBSM
SqeezeMasterFlash Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Whatever you're specializing in at the moment will be higher than everything else. If you're specializing in thick bar your crush won't be going up. When you go back to crushing, however, it should go up faster than it did before, becuase you've built up to a higher level of overall strength. At least that's what happens to me. itch85 Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 So its a good idea to do all variations of grip, i.e. pinch, crush, thickbar, but concentrate a bit more on the one and say cycle them around? Quote Last Gripper Closed = #2 Next Gripper to Close = BBSM
SqeezeMasterFlash Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 I think so. I try to always work all aspects of grip, but focus on one, doing it more times per week than others. After that goal is acheived I do that exercise fewer times per week and focus on my next goal. Quote Dwell not upon your weariness, for your strength shall be according to the measure of your desire. itch85 Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 sounds like a good way of training, at the moment then id say im concentrating more on crush but will take my thickbar to gym to have a blast on it. Hands are a bit sore tho, got carried away with pinching yesterday Quote Last Gripper Closed = #2 Next Gripper to Close = BBSM
Dave H Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Yea, I think there might be something to that. I don't do thick bar training, but one of the guys at work who competes in Powerlifting in the 198's trains Thick Bar to improve his deadlift. He deadlifts 610-620 in competition but swears he can't close the #2 gripper. (I took my grippers to work one time and he liked them and bought the #1 and the #2.) He says that if he trains the grip for grip strength, then his hands stays too sore and his deadlift goes down because he can't hold on to the heavy weight. So he backs off the gripper and his dead goes back up and the crush goes back down. So whatever it is that you are working on at the time is were the gains are going be, I guess. Sixgun....
