ishred
Question about my rt being that the pipe in the middle of the handle is thin and when i hold it with my hand straight my fingers don't wrap around the bottom and there is about a 1.5" space between my thumb and other fingers, I feel all the weight is being focused on that open part of my hand. Should I train at a lower weight with a straight hand, or should i cock my hand? thanks.
The Mac
My own personal view is that, if your hands are far from meeting on the RT, you might be better off training the wrists (ie. cocking the hand) rather than trying to "pinch" the weight up. mcham
Maybe if you're training it just to lift more on the RT, cocking the wrist is good. But if you just want to fry your hands and forearms, and especially your thumbs, then "pinching" it is certainly a good workout.

Should I train at a lower weight with a straight hand, or should i cock my hand? You're missing the point of the exercise: the RT exploits the weakest part of your grip, and automatically spins to that part. If you can only pull, say 150 pounds on your RT, then THAT'S what your weakest part can pull. Cock your wrist if you want. On a very heavy weight, this might not work. This is what makes the Rolling Thunder so challenging. It's a revolving handle.
